Dean, I REALLY don't care.

This fuck-up was a revelation, a real revelation for me.

I used to hold that the nation of America in particularly high esteem primarily because of Stonewall. I thought: "That's where the battle for equal rights for gays began, in the States." And I hope that these American qualities, robust examination of old prejudices and the ruthless discarding of archaic practices will one day return to America. It didn't take long for them to disappear from the Upper House levels of political discourse, perhaps it won't take them long to return.

But if representatives like Dean don't even damn well KNOW what they're standing for, well, this overseas queer is losing his interest in following the adventures of the Democratic party of America. Clearly these people pay lip-service to their base in the same way the pukes dangle hellfire-spangled carrots in front of the drooling fundies.

We have all been played, queer dudes. They don't give JACK.

That's it, for me.

I think I can almost forgive Phoney Blair, actually, I don't think he can be trusted an inch, but he really *did* care about poofs. He wanted *rid* of homophobia and racism, and, to a large degree, he got what he wanted. Go you, Tory Blur.

Howard? That was it. There's no reason for you to care about me, I can't vote for or against you, but in light of your image as one of the stronger Democrats, all I can say is, you've fucked it, it is now clear to me that there is NO left wing power focus in the US, just left wing people doing their best to keep the ordinary ideals of common sense and mutual respect alive while cynical manipulators like you take their votes and do whatever the helllllll you like.

1. Look at it a different way...why can't Howard lie to the extremists, too?
I just thought of this, because I'm kinda pissed that people are pissed about what Dean said to a bunch of extremist asshole to whom we otherwise wouldn't give the time of day. The goal is to WIN in 2006 and 2008. Let's use 'em. We'll use 'em like the ignorant racist, homophobic bigots that they are, just to gain votes, just to get our government back. Then we turn our backs on them just like everyone else has, and probably rightly should, because they're fucking nutbag hater kooks.

Just sayin'. We have some far more important fish to fry.

2. Obviously you haven't followed closely enough or long enough
to realize that Dean signed gay civil unions into law when he was governor of Vermont and gave that bill his full support. A gay civil union is a marriage that forces no church to perform it and thus doesn't end up putting right wing preachers into fits, something that happens so frequently over other issues that it is no longer amusing.

I know of no gay couple who have been joined under a civil union statute there or elswhere who don't refer to themselves as MARRIED.

It's semantic tapdancing.

Dean's support far exceeds that of the suburbanites in his party, who are like suburbanites everywhere, resenting any change that doesn't directly benefit them.

3. I never know what to say to these "I'm outta here" rants.
Are we supposed to beg people who invite themselves out to stay?

Are we supposed to actually point out the record of the party and contrast it to the bullshit of statements like "they don't give jack?"

Are we supposed to compare a guy busting his ass for america with something like "you don't care about me, but..."

And calling a straight shooter a "cynical manipulator" JUST BECAUSE HE MIGHT DISAGREE on a single position, what to say about that?

Fact is, nothing's to be said, because there's nothing to respond to except overblown rhetoric in these threads. If Dean's called all that shit for what he did, then having the EFFRONTERY to not meekly accept the rant is going to get me twice as much. Just hoping he leaves after throwing a bomb in the room, but you know what? They never do.
