I guess all of us here are on some kind of enemies' list
I'm just having a flashback to, I don't know, the early 70's. The term "Nixonian" seems to have a pretty good ring.

My question is, what happens when your enemies are around 65 percent of the populace? And I guess another question is, do they really care?

How have we shifted so far right that Nixon seems almost acceptable, Regan seems tolerable, and LBJ would be a cult hero ?

go figure..

16. Think about it
Mixon created the EPA. He supported price controls. He made peace with Communist regimes in China and the Soviet Union. He drastically reduced the US presence in Vietnam. Can anyone imagine Bush accomplishing so much?

9. I don't think so...
At least Nixon had a sack. He would be too ballsy for our current wusses to stomach.

2. I used to answer the phone "Hi, the phone's bugged" back in the
60s and early 70s. There were enough clicks and buzzes on the line that it was an educated guess that the phone was bugged, and some housemates were writing for alternative weeklies, so that was another reason, plus I was active with the SDS, so there ya go again.

I guess I should update my answering machine greeting to reflect that now.

One of the great missed opportunities in this country was in not going after the Nixon administration for this stuff back in 1974. Most people just wanted him GONE, thinking that would solve the problem of his abuse of power.

Well, his underlings are back and doing the same things now. This time we can't just let them off the hook. We need to charge, try, and imprison every single one of them, no matter how lowly they appear to be, and we need to strengthen our laws to prevent violation of the Fourth Amendment in all cases, including tightening up the forefeiture statutes so that property can be seized only if the owner is convicted of the offense.

The march toward totalitarianism will continue unless we do these things now. We can't put them off they way it was done in 1974. We know it doesn't work that way and why.

They always come back.

5. We were way to complacent...
I think many people had the attitude, that this could never happen again. It's amazing how close we came to having a major constitutional crisis back then, I'm convinced we'll have it full blown this time.

13. I got a lot of clicks
on my phone line after I came back from the 2004 RNC (where I was "detained" regardless of having broken no laws).

A friend of mine told me a story of how the Black Panthers knew their phone was being tapped in the '60's and '70's. They simply didn't pay the bill. It got up to $600. or $700. and never got shut off. They didn't get so much as a notice.

4. I can guarantee I am and I pride myself on that fact too, I love..........
...driving the neocons/fundies crazy.

I've purposely told a few neocons, "Considering what we have squatting in our WH these days the powers that be should let Hinkley out of the nut house, give him a rifle, and give him Bush's itinerary." I don't really mean it, the guy had a problem with some actress as I remember, but it sure raises a few neocon eyebrows. I mean it's fun to see neocons/fundies spit coffee or whatever all over themselves as they head for the phone. So I'm quite confident a few neocons have reported me to the NSA, FBI, FEMA, and who knows who else by now.

I can't say for sure because I've never seen my file (do people even get actual paper files anymroe?) or held it in my hand, but yeah I'm 99% sure I have one.

17. I don't really care
right now, either way. The only way I'm a threat to anyone is my dissent here, and on a couple of other boards. In real life, I could barely scare a child on Halloween.
