Police: Pastor Spanked Girl Who Claimed Abuse By Relative

ELGIN, Ill. -- A pastor was charged with spanking a 13-year-old girl with a piece of wood because he thought she was lying when she said she was sexually abused by a relative.

Police said the Rev. Daryl Bujak struck the girl hard enough to cause bruises and welts after she was brought to him for counseling because her mother doubted the claims.

Officials said they believe the girl's allegations of sexual abuse, and this week authorities in McHenry County charged a 33-year-old man with abusing her from September 2003 until March 2005.

"It's unbelievable," said Lt. Mike Turner. "It's a sad case for this girl."

The mother said Bujak, pastor at First Missionary Baptist Church in suburban Chicago, told her the girl had acknowledged lying when they met between March and May.

after all, Dobson advocates child abuse as punishment.

that's just messed up, on so many levels:

1. that a mother would not take her own daughter seriously about being abused by a stranger (I'm assuming, the article doesn't state his relationship to the family).
2. And even if the girl was lying (she wasnt, but even if) that she would take her daughter to a pastor to administer discipline instead of doing it herself. There's years of therapy right there even if the pastor hadnt...
3. ...spanked her with a piece of wood hard enought to cause lasting injury. SHE WAS THERE FOR COUNSELING, sheesh!
What is that, the "walking tall counseling stick"?

Take her to a competent child psychologist and/or the police.

which is all the more reason to believe her, actually, as most abusers in these situations are not strangers to the victim.

This story makes me sick and furious. I'd like to do something Biblically vengeful and crude to that "pastor" with that "piece of wood."

Which is one of the reasons why so many stay silent :( That poor, poor girl.

First preists molest 1000s and the police won't get involved and now this guy beats a girl with a piece of wood.

No human being has the legal right to beat another with a piece of wood - period. Frickin' insanity.

This is one place they'll make sure it applies. :sarcasm:

Tells you how much the mother cares for the girl. This poor little girl is now going to go through life having a hard time trusting people because of this incident. I do hope she gets some real counseling.

Hey, I'm not blaming the girl, here. She's too young to even know she's being abused, and obviously has no support from her mom. Another lifelong source of income for the shrinks.
