GM ending sale of the Hummer H1
General Motors will stop selling the Hummer H1, the hulking military-derived SUV that launched the company’s successful Hummer brand, this year.

GM will continue to sell the H2 and H3 SUVs that accounted for more than 99% of Hummer’s total sales last year. H1 production should end in June.

Despite prices starting at $130,000, high fuel consumption and minimal comfort and amenities, the H1 became a status symbol driven by rich and famous customers like actor-politician Arnold Schwarnezegger.

GM began selling H1s in 2000, using the truck’s militaristic looks and extreme offroad ability to launch its successful Hummer brand. AM General, which manufactures the military Humvee, the H1 and H2, began selling H1s to retail customers in 1992. The two companies have sold a total of about 12,000 H1s since 1992.

3. I hope they plan on replacing it with something just as huge and obnoxious
so that all the guys with small penises will have something to drive.

I hate those f*cking things.

Status symbol?? Give me a break.

5. they still have the H2 and the H3...hardly anyone has an H1.
if you've ever seen "Big Love" on hbo, 'the prophet'(harry dean stanton) has two of them. virtually all the Hummers you see on the road are H2's or some H3's.

and the biggest share of the people i've seen driving them are women- it's penis envy gone wild.

4. The shocker is that it took this long
You can get a lot of cars for $130,000.

I don't mean "there are a lot of models available in that price range." I mean you can buy three or four very nice vehicles for the $130,000 an H1 commands. Come to Fayettenam and there are lots of HOUSES available in that price range. New ones. With heat and everything.

That was part of what killed the H1. The other part is that an H1 sucks, man. A car that gets five miles to the gallon should NOT have a 22-second 0-to-60 time; the H1 does. Volkswagen Bus drivers seek out H1s to challenge to stoplight drag races. They ride like shit. They're deafeningly loud. They run on diesel so the first thing you gotta do is teach mama how to start the damn thing. They've got a two-foot-wide transmission tunnel. You can't kiss your wife at red lights in this vehicle unless she's willing to unhook her seat belt and crawl out of the hole the passenger sits in. The vehicle is wider than any other car on the road by a substantial amount and you can't see the right front fender...which means it's real easy to knock the right front fender off. In fact, the only positive thing about the H1 is that you can fuck in it without being a contortionist--the transmission tunnel makes a perfect bed. And you know something? You can buy a $40,000 SUV that is too small to screw in, then rent a LOT of hotel rooms, for the same money as an H1.
