Chavez urged to seize four big oil ventures...
Edited on Fri May-12-06 03:34 PM by SidDithers
CARACAS -- Venezuelan lawmakers called on President Hugo Chavez yesterday to take control of four heavy oil ventures run by foreign oil companies, including Exxon Mobil Corp. and ConocoPhillips, in the latest effort to grab a bigger share of energy industry profits.

Deputy Rodrigo Cabezas said the government should revoke the ventures' contracts because they leave state oil company Petroleos de Venezuela SA with only a minority stake.

The four projects targeted in the latest recommendations are the largest undertaken by foreign companies in the country. In total, there is about $13-billion (U.S.) invested to produce about 600,000 barrels of synthetic crude a day -- about 23 per cent of Venezuela's oil output.

Spokesmen for the affected companies -- Exxon Mobil, Total SA, ConocoPhillips and BP PLC either declined to comment or didn't return calls.

Was going to post this in LBN, but thought it would be more fun to watch the foaming at the mouth and gnashing of teeth that a Chavez thread in GD always brings. :)

Sid

Edited: after the very astute observation in the first reply that foaming at the teeth doesn't really make sense

1. What is this supposed to mean? "The foaming and gnashing of teeth that a
Chavez thread in GD always brings"???

How do you "foam" teeth?

Only thing I can glean from it is using toothpaste. Foaming it all up and then brushing and flossing, for good dental health.

Who foams their teeth over Chavez? And what does it mean?

I think I saw some foaming of the teeth the other day at timesonline, about Chavez. It was so foamy it was laughable. Bubbles all over their noses, and dribbling down their chins. Big bubbles floating up into the air.

Also, clean teeth make better gnashers. Lots of that, too, in the corporate news monopoly clean teeth brigade. Gnashing and biting.

Or did you mean DUers who appreciate democracy happening in former U.S.-death squad countries?

We're not foaming or gnashing. We're just cheering!

4. Actually, I would say it's the anti-Chavez crowd...
that seems to do the foaming and gnashing. Me? I'm right there cheering with you.
