3. Yeah, that "63%" is nonsense.
It's a push poll. They're asking if they're glad it's preventing terrorism.

If you ask a bunch of people if it's OK for Bush to break the law if it keeps their baby from exploding, a majority of people will say yes.

7. Yes. There's no evidence that this has anything to do with terrorism.
(Except to the extent which terrorism is helping them get away with it.)

11. If you're violating millions of Americans...
then you are a terrorist.

4. The questions were VERY misleading...

about the poll questions being biased.

Here's the language from the Washington Post/ABC News poll - Posted by DUer grasswire

"What do you think is more important right now -- (for the federal government to investigate possible terrorist threats, even if that intrudes on personal privacy); or (for the federal government not to intrude on personal privacy, even if that limits its ability to investigate possible terrorist threats)? Sixty-five percent said investigate threats; 31 percent said privacy.

"It's been reported that the National Security Agency has been collecting the phone call records of tens of millions of Americans. It then analyzes calling patterns in an effort to identify possible terrorism suspects, without listening to or recording the conversations. Would you consider this an acceptable or unacceptable way for the federal government to investigate terrorism? Do you feel that way strongly or somewhat?" Sixty-three percent said acceptable, 35 percent said unacceptable.

Thanks to Dan Froomkin at The Washington Post.

illegal spying. I would, with great discomfort and in very selective circumstances, say yes to legal-with court order-spying.

10. I think people don't want to be against something unless
they can explain why. For a lot of people who haven't thought it out all the way, the argument, "Why should you care if you have nothing to hide?" carries a lot of weight.

If we could come up with a snappy, easy to understand reason WHY you should care if you have nothing to hide, I bet we'd see those numbers change.
