Correction for Raw Story: Bill Clinton was NEVER censured.
http://www.rawstory.com/news/2006/Clinton_bests_Bush_in_honesty_poll_0512.html

The story at link above mentions that Clinton was censured; however that is just not so. Back in 1998, some Democrats offered up censure as an impeachment alternative, but the Republicans wouldn't compromise and went whole hog on impeachment. There was never a censure.

Just wanted to clean up the Big Dog's record here.

2. Here's the line error...
"Clinton left office still popular, having been censured by lawmakers as a result of impeachment procedings."

5. Good catch...
...but perhaps not a literal error? Impeachment is censure of the very strongest kind, and might just explain the odd wording of that sentence.

At best, though, this is very sloppy diction.

6. That's what I thought too but with Russ out there calling for...
censure, it's probably best to be real clear on what censure is. If, even by accident, we start calling Impeachment proceedings censure, it'll confuse people. Rawstory will fix it, they always do.

8. Correct me if I'm wrong ...
Impeachment is sort of like indictment. You can be judged guilty and removed from office, or be acquitted.

Censure is a condemnation with no further consequences. Even after the acquittal, I seem to recall that Old JoeMentum called for censure but got nowhere. And I think that's why Gore put him on the ticket in 2000 - to try to align with Clinton critics so the Blue Dress wouldn't stain his candidacy. I think this was Al's biggest mistake in the campaign. JoeMentum did NOTHING for him.

10. censure is an actual "conviction"
Impeachment is a trial.

They are not the same.

11. Well, impeachment can end with conviction.
Censure is just a motion to be passed or not, if we're discussing Congressional proceedings.

In the larger sense, though, even starting impeachment proceedings is a powerful form of censure (one that drove Nixon to resign).

No, I don't think Raw Story should have confused impeachment with censure, even if they were referring specifically to a non-Congressional meaning of the latter word.

4. Yes, it does.
Verbatim:

Clinton left office still popular, having been censured by lawmakers as a result of impeachment procedings.
