6. Agitprop 101
So predictable. Shades of Pravda.

For cryin out loud, even Scarborough and Tucker Carlson were ripping Bush on this yesterday. The Chicago Tribune wrote an editorial against it.

Morin is a tool of BushCo.

11. Look at the specific questions....
Edited on Fri May-12-06 05:50 PM by zulchzulu
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/politics/polls/postpoll_nsa_051206.htm

Here's one that spins in Repuglified nuance:
" It's been reported that the National Security Agency has been collecting the phone call records of tens of millions of Americans. It then analyzes calling patterns in an effort to identify possible terrorism suspects, without listening to or recording the conversations. Would you consider this an acceptable or unacceptable way for the federal government to investigate terrorism? Do you feel that way strongly or somewhat?"

Here is how I would ask the question:

" It's been reported that the National Security Agency has been SECRETLY MONITORING the phone call records of tens of millions of Americans WITHOUT A WARRANT. Allegedly, the NSA says it ONLY analyzes calling patterns in an effort to identify possible terrorism suspects, without listening to or recording the conversations. DO YOU FEEL YOUR RIGHTS OF PRIVACY AS AN AMERICAN HAVE BEEN INVADED BY THIS SECRET PROGRAM?"

I doubt 20% would say "yes".

Additionally, the poll data says the margin of error (MOE) is over 4%. A decent poll has a MOE of 3% or less.

Anything in the Washingon Post or New York Times deserves to line the bottom of the birdcage. Both papers are full of it.

20. That poll stinks to high heavens: EVERYONE supports spying on "Terrorists"
But, aye, there's the rub.

They've gone beyond Terrorists...unless 225 million Americans now have al Queda links?!

22. See also this other thread:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=364x1174702
thread title (5-12-06 GD): Bogus WaPo/ABC poll on Americans' "support" of NSA spying-FIGHT THIS SCAM!

Note in reply #23, someone at Firedoglake discovered that the company running the bogus "poll" has as its primary clients "TELECOMMUNICATIONS SERVICE PROVIDERS."
Conflict of interest, much?

24. That was a "push poll" directed at the uninformed.
It should only be referred to as the "now discredited push poll conducted by a Bush supporter for the Washington Post." I think not just the listening class but people in general are becoming much more sophisticated with the phraseology of polls.
