Now we know why Bush is gonna send troops to the border
He is getting desperate because of Rove being indicted and his popularity is really going to take a hit. IMHO

1. If Rove gets indicted on Monday and he gives his little speech, no
one will notice the speech.

It'll be crazy.

2. The only reason why he ever does anything, political reasons
and paybacks to those who helped him gain power. Everyone else can just go pound sand.

3. BINGO! Another way to deflect attention; I for one am not
interested in immigration policies at this point, when our own civil liberties are being screwed with, and dimson's brain is going down. Nothing he can say or do will make me feel otherwise. Let's just say I've put him on 'ignore'!

10. ** put us regular 'Mericans on ignore long ago. ** doesn't use e-mail
because he doesn't want us reading his "stuff", his words. He thinks he is a dictator. I guess that is what happens to a person who was raised by Nazi sympathizers, as in prescott bush.

16. News: He IS a dictator
Edited on Fri May-12-06 06:35 PM by Jawja
until he is held accountable by either the Congress or the American People. Consider all of the laws he has broken. Does no good for Congress to pass legislation trying to limit his powers because he files a "signing statement" declaring that he decides what is Constitutional or not.

Until either the Congress acts to remove him and his criminal regime from power or the American public takes the streets and shuts down the country, he is indeed a dictator.

18. Well according to his way of "thinking" the American people
can't hold him accountable. Guess that's where his dictator mentality comes from. And he laughs at Congressional Dems. He's so sure that we won't take back either the House or the Senate, at least that is how he acts. His behavior is so brazen, it screams arrogance. From day one, he has acted like a dictator, like he's above the Constitution. He really believes he won't ever be held accountable by either Congress or the American people. I hope he is in for a rude awakening, soon.

4. I don't know where * thinks he's going to stand them...
...but it BETER NOT be on US soil.

Deploying troops on American soil is EXACTLY WHY the Founding Fathers made a well-armed civilian militia the SECOND Amendment, only second to freedom of speech.

Mondo brinkmanship, Blivet.

This cannot stand.

6. Can anyone tell me WHAT the troops will do?
Are they a "deterrent" or will they actually shoot people trying to cross? They can't possibly cover the entire border since so many are deployed in Iraq.

Edited on Fri May-12-06 06:07 PM by Dunvegan
The Posse Comitatus Act of 1878, enacted during the post-Civil War reconstruction period, prohibits federal military personnel from acting in a law enforcement capacity within the United States.

You CANNOT stand up the US Military on domestic land.

Is he insane? What kind of precedent is he trying to set?

You know, Blivet is realllly getting on my nerves, now.

14. That was what I saw reported - NG. Two (AZ and TX ) Gov's said
it was a good idea (as CNN reported but they didn't show any clips of the AZ and TX gov's statements) and two don't like it (clips shown) - Richardson said the NG is overworked, they've been in Afghanistan and Iraq, Arnie also said it shouldn't be the NG because this is a fed responsibility and it shouldn't be up to the states - ie, hire more federal border peeps.

That was what I saw on CNN.

15. Actually, the House already gave the Pentagon the go ahead
On Capitol Hill on Thursday, the House voted 252-171 to allow Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld to assign military personnel under certain circumstances to help the Homeland Security Department with border security. The House added the provision to a larger military measure.

Pentagon considers sending troops to border
Fri May 12, 2006 1:50 PM ET
A defense official, speaking on condition of anonymity due to the sensitivity of the issue, said the Defense Department is exploring options for possible use of troops or military assets to help with border security.

Citing what some members called "an invasion" of illegal immigrants across the southern U.S. border, the House of Representatives voted 252-171 on Thursday to permit the Pentagon to assign forces to help in border protections.
