Tom Suozzi to run for congress?
Edited on Fri May-12-06 06:23 PM by Bleachers7
This site says that might happen. Peter King (R-NY-03-Fascist Boot licker) still doesn't have an opponent. This site is suggesting that Suozzi will drop out of the governors race and run for Congress against King. That would be awesome! Suozzi has tons of cash and carisma. We need someone to knock over Peter King. Lets hope.

1. It seems to be just an idea
A very, very good idea. We don't need Suozzi for the gubernatorial gig. We've got Spitzer, which is what the polls have been saying as well. OTOH, King needs to go.

I hope this is true.

3. It would be the best possible thing that Suozzi could do
for Democrats in NY and Washington! He has a big uphill battle against a popular Spitzer for Governor (and has taken $ from big Repubs who have a beef with Spitzer's work as Atty Gen)

I know this guy is used to being at the top of an administration, but BOY would he be a great candidate against that POS King. I really really really hope that he will seriously consider taking up this fight!!

4. No, Suozzi shot himself in the foot politically this week.
He proposed taxing commuters who use the Long Island Expressway during rush hour like they do in London. Any republican with half-a-brain (the standard) would go after Suozzi with his propensity to tax a problem instead of solving it.

He's toast.

5. He's fine
That's nothing compared to the shit King has done and said. King said that he "thanks god every day George bush is his president." Which one is worse?

Suozzi still should hope for a limited attention span of the public. I still wouldn't put it past his opponent to resurrect the proposal. I can imagine Al D'Amato calling King and telling him to push the story.

6. I don't think that got as much play as that..
and it got buried pretty quickly. King is SUCH a stinker. Anyone who opposes him would have an automatic boost. Someone who already has name recognition would have a shot.

7. Someone with $4 million would be in real good shape.
King has just over $1 million.

18. It's not so buried around here
I think there's a mention in Newsday today. It was a big misstep. He'd probably have to do more than back off of it. He should issue a statement that shows why he now understands how it wouldn't work here and how regressive a tax it would be. He's got promise but he loses me if he's a Dem who can't really quite get how tough life is getting for regular people. That's been a weakness among some leaders in our party. It's not quite enough not to want to actually crush the life out of us, although it is an improvement over the current Republican policy.

25. People do it to the extent they can
In Suffolk county the LIRR is well utilized. Park and Ride lots are full. There is no other mass transit worth talking about. Yes, we have a bus system, but it can take a half day to get from point a to point b. Literally, half a day. Carpooling is not possible for everyone. It's very difficult for parents. You have kids to pick up. You have midday emergencies. Penalizing all the people that don't have a choice to change the habits of the small minority that do have choice is not a good idea at all. It's just another regressive tax.

26. i used to live in
nassau, up until jan 05 so i know that many use mass transit. however i work in manhattan and see the stream of cars that come in from long island. more people need to use mass transit. more park and rides need to open up and be made available.

there are still a lot of people that can use mass transit to get to work and dont. look at the under utilized stations out east and along the port washington and oyster bay branches.

we also need more mass transit on long island itself. an expansion of LI bus to start.

10. True
True, if he keeps up his attacks on Spitzer he will end whatever higher office plans he has. But if he bows out gracefully and says we need real representation in DC and a congressman who is not a toady for the worst administration since Hoover, he will help himself alot.
Don't get me wrong, I believe Suozzi would make a great governor but this is not his time. I'm not talking about a "turn" but this race for governor has a strong candidate who will bring the governorship back to Democratic hands after 12 years and give Dems Row A statewide through the 2008 presidential elections. That's no small thing.
Suozzi can beat King and spend the next 10-12 years in congress and then comme back to run for governor or senate or president like he wants to.
Draft Suozzi.

13. hi nassaupolitics!
Welcome to DU
(Long Beacher here)

I already sent an email to Suozzi suggesting that he oppose King (I sent it the day Denenberg dropped out).. I am a little steamed at the DNC not giving a little love to this race. King is more vulnerable than he has been for years.

Now, how do we get Harvey Weisenberg ("I will save you at the beaches") off Kings bandwagon?

21. The 3rd CD rollercoaster
Will Suozzi accept a Draft?
Word is NO. He is sticking to the gubernatorial race no matter what.
Who would consider the race again and really wants to run? Legislator Dave Mejias
I have info at www.kingwatch.blogspot.com

Mejias can raise the money just like Suozzi but we still need to push him and the DCCC to take NY-3 seriously.
