John Prevas

Author John Prevas discusses his new book "Envy of the Gods: Alexander The Great's Ill-Fated Journey Across Asia." The author makes the case that Alexander the Great was not as glamorous as he is often characterized in popular history and film. The book characterizes Alexander as someone who was constantly expanding his empire as a result of his own megalomaniacal impulses. Mr. Prevas spent several months retracing Alexander's march across what is now Iran on his way to expanding the Persian empire. The author also talks about what he sees as the problem of Hollywood changing historical facts in order to market a movie.

John Prevas is a writer, adventurer, and professor. He is the author of "Hannibal Crosses the Alps" and "Xenophon's March" and currently teaches at Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, Florida.

53. Thanks Viva, I was at the Los Angeles Festival of Books
and Taylor Branch was one of my favorite panels. The room was totally silent and intense while he was speaking as the discussion with Tavis was quite profound and focused on history, philosophy, women's roles, equal souls and equal votes as well as moral values. It was weird seeing my own face on TV and I would have missed seeing a panel I loved, if you were not so diligent each week. Much appreciated!:toast:
