Mel Gibson's new movie "Apocalypse" is an attack on George Bush....
"Film star and director Mel Gibson has launched a scathing attack on US President George W Bush, comparing his leadership to the barbaric rulers of the Mayan civilization in his new film Apocalypse.

The epic, due for release later this year, captures the decline of the Maya kingdom and the slaughter of thousands of inhabitants as human sacrifices in a bid to save the nation from collapsing.

Gibson reveals he used present day American politics as an inspiration, claiming the government callously plays on the nation's insecurities to maintain power.

He tells British film magazine Hotdog, "The fear-mongering we depict in the film reminds me of President Bush and his guys".

I have always had a soft spot in my part in my heart for Mel, even though he is a certifiable nutcase. It really makes me feel better to know that, as wacked out as he is, even Mel Gibson realizes that George W Bush is seriously off-base. There is hope for us all.

1. Too late for Gibson to redeem himself. And the world does not
need more *let's glorify violence* movies from him either.

3. This thread title, compared to what the article is really saying, is an
incredible distortion of intent.

Gibson's been making a film for a few years, says what he's made reminds him of Bush, then you turn that around and make it sound like Gibson set out to attack Bush WITH this movie.

Amazing

7. Actually, it wasn't me that made the connection....its the headline writer
Though I do share his or her opinion. I admit to being shocked that Gibson would criticize Bush this way since I considered him to be a "true believer". That you dislike Gibson intensely doesn't surprise me at all, but I certainly had no intention of honoring Gibson for "attacking" Bush. I merely was pleasantly surprised to discover Mel isn't a total "Bush-bot" and was man enough to challenge my previous assumptions about him...

Sorry you took offense.

10. The Headline writer said that a Bush fan might have turned against him
Didn't say anywhere in the article that the movie is an attack on Bush, that's all yours.

13. From the first line of the article....
"Film star and director Mel Gibson has launched a scathing attack on US President George W Bush, comparing his leadership to the barbaric rulers of the Mayan civilization in his new film Apocalypse."

I only posted the piece, I didn't write it. I do happen to agree with it and I'm really puzzled by your reaction but-hey-its just a message board, no lasting scars inflicted on anyone...

Again, I'm merely surprised that Gibson would go in this direction. Obviously, you take it much more seriously than I do.

15. I don't care about Gibson, or his movies, or his beliefs
I'm "offended" by this sensationalist headline, which equates a movie as a direct attack on Bush. It's not. And the article tries to stretch it that far, but doesn't. But here it is in GD as 'Apocalaypto = Bush sucks', and it's just not true.

12. I read all about this movie months ago it Time magazine
With pictures from the production, storylines, etc. Bush was never mentioned. I think the headline is an extreme stretch.

be worth discussing. I had no idea I'd piss off anyone. Damn, GD is hard core.

5. I know he's a nut, but I'm actually intrigued by this new movie.
For all of Gibson's faults, I have to give him credit for covering a topic and time in history not often told from a wholly non-Anglo perspective. It will be interesting to see how true to pre-Columbian culture the movie will be when it comes out.

11. Because South Park said he's nuts
wait, GD doesn't like South Park anymore, so maybe Gibson isn't nuts. And he's slamming Bush today, so he gets classified as another Tweety
