When pushed too far, the oligarchy will clamp down
their actions since the coup of 2000 show that they no longer have the slightest respect for the truth or for even the superficial appearance of "democracy."

When they become truly desperate--as I think they are now--the end of the illusion of popular freedom won't be heralded with announcements, or leaked as a news story for us to debate. It will come as a door being kicked in--as an interruption mid-conversa

1. Then we will have to fight right back.
There is more of us then there are of them. Some people on our side have much power.

2. No one wants to fight back...
we are in this crummy situation now because people didn't give a damn. They won't know when to give a damn. There really is no way to stop this. You could try to fight back, but it would be pointless. You'd be the only one, while everyone else would just try to keep a low profile and shut up.

6. That's pretty damn defeatist.
Besides the fact that people will soon be in a position that they'll either be able to eat or to put gas in their car.

The American people just have some inertia to overcome. The rest is just organizing.

3. When the Aristocracy clamped down, The French...
stormed the Bastille, invented the guillotine, and roasted the aristocracy on a spit, and force fed their bodies to their wives. If this gentry continues to go that route, then this is what they'll be looking forward to.

8. which reminded me of this:
Song: Do You Hear the People Sing?
ENJOLRAS
Do you hear the people sing?
Singing a song of angry men?
It is the music of a people
Who will not be slaves again!
When the beating of your heart
Echoes the beating of the drums
There is a life about to start
When tomorrow comes!

COMBEFERRE
Will you join in our crusade?
Who will be strong and stand with me?
Beyond the barricade
Is there a world you long to see?
Courfeyrac:
Then join in the fight
That will give you the right to be free!

ALL
Do you hear the people sing?
Singing a song of angry men?
It is the music of a people
Who will not be slaves again!
When the beating of your heart
Echoes the beating of the drums
There is a life about to start
When tomorrow comes!

FEUILLY
Will you give all you can give
So that our banner may advance
Some will fall and some will live
Will you stand up and take your chance?
The blood of the martyrs
Will water the meadows of France!

ALL
Do you hear the people sing?
Singing a song of angry men?
It is the music of a people
Who will not be slaves again!
When the beating of your heart
Echoes the beating of the drums
There is a life about to start
When tomorrow comes!

18. Funny. I was thinking about Mel Brooks' History of the World.
"Alright Scum! We are going on the attack. We have no food. We have no money. We have no dignity. We don't even have our own language! Huoa, huoa, huoa! Now repeat after me...Death to King Loueeeeeeeeeeee!"

All:"Death to king Loueeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!"

"Now, Scum. Let's end this meeting on a high note. ALALALALALALALALALALALALA!"

14. You've moved me
to watch, yet again, the DVDs of the 10th Anniversary Concert at the Royal Albert Hall which featured the dream cast. That'll be while I do my ironing as it's raining here in London. If you've never seen the dream cast concert then I'd recommend the DVDs - quite aside from the cast the sound is quite incredible in that venue with a symphony orchestra and a massive choir.

I saw the 21st Anniv. version of the show recently - a young friend of of my son is stand in for Javert so a bundle of us go when he's performing.

Anyway, yes - an admirably suitable song given your circumstances in the USA.

...there is a life about to start when tomorrow comes.

4. It is hard to watch so many second rate people in power
I wonder what it really is saying about the people who voted for them in the first place. We who did not put them in power can join the rest of the world as we feel guilt for our own smallness of mind to let people get so much power.

21. Its arrogant to say, but it is so true
No wonder they enrage the football masses to distrust their betters.

It makes you an elite, uz all elites looking down from our cloud.

Perhaps it takes ignorance of that cloud of betters to set about being
a politiican to start with.

25. What gets to people I know is the lack of his 'base' knowing
what this crazy American Ideal was and one of the things was you do not trust 'rulers' so you have this messy slow way of checking each other at every turn. Then hoping that the people could try and rule them self. Yes I understand it was white land owners but it was a start in something new. To now have 30 percent of the people thinking we have a 'ruler' who talks to God and is always doing the right thing just makes one gag. Having come up through an old Puritan family it was sort of drilled in. Keep the church out of your gov. and the 'ruler' out of the gov. And it always was a Republican family. I do not like the thought of Bush's values pushed up my families back-in.

10. Alright, then, take it to the streets.
this may be a really really stupid thing for me to say, but I'd rather have a direct confrontation and get this shit over with once and for all.

Part of me feels like it's the only way to resolve the root cause.

12. Next week it's troops on the border
This fall we'll need them at the ports.
Then the nuke plants will require federal protection.
We better put them at the airports to "watch out for terrorists".
Soldiers at the mall will assure consumers they're safe.
Criminals travel from state to state without regulation so we can block off all but the interstate highways at the state borders to erect checkpoints manned by the military.

The only thing uncertain will be the name of this new homeland guard.
I vote for "Federales".

Welcome to Amerika.

15. Frank Zappa said it beautifully nearly 30 years ago...
"The illusion of freedom will continue as long as it's profitable to continue the illusion. At the point where the illusion becomes too expensive to maintain, they will just take down the scenery, they will pull back the curtains, they will move the tables and chairs out of the way, and you will see the brick wall at the back of the theatre." 16. Bob Marley also said
Get up, stand up: stand up for your rights!
Get up, stand up: stand up for your rights!
Get up, stand up: stand up for your rights!
Get up, stand up: don't give up the fight!

Preacherman, don't tell me,
Heaven is under the earth.
I know you don't know
What life is really worth.
It's not all that glitters is gold;
'Alf the story has never been told:
So now you see the light, eh!
Stand up for your rights. Come on!

Get up, stand up: stand up for your rights!
Get up, stand up: don't give up the fight!
Get up, stand up: stand up for your rights!
Get up, stand up: don't give up the fight!

Most people think,
Great God will come from the skies,
Take away everything
And make everybody feel high.
But if you know what life is worth,
You will look for yours on earth:
And now you see the light,
You stand up for your rights. Jah!

Get up, stand up! (Jah, Jah!)
Stand up for your rights! (Oh-hoo!)
Get up, stand up! (Get up, stand up!)
Don't give up the fight! (Life is your right!)
Get up, stand up! (So we can't give up the fight!)
Stand up for your rights! (Lord, Lord!)
Get up, stand up! (Keep on struggling on!)
Don't give up the fight! (Yeah!)

We sick an' tired of-a your ism-skism game -
Dyin' 'n' goin' to heaven in-a Jesus' name, Lord.
We know when we understand:
Almighty God is a living man.
You can fool some people sometimes,
But you can't fool all the people all the time.
So now we see the light (What you gonna do?),
We gonna stand up for our rights! (Yeah, yeah, yeah!)

So you better:
Get up, stand up! (In the morning! Git it up!)
Stand up for your rights! (Stand up for our rights!)
Get up, stand up!
Don't give up the fight! (Don't give it up, don't give it up!)
Get up, stand up! (Get up, stand up!)
Stand up for your rights! (Get up, stand up!)
Get up, stand up! ( ... )
Don't give up the fight! (Get up, stand up!)
Get up, stand up! ( ... )
Stand up for your rights!
Get up, stand up!
Don't give up the fight!
