Why isn't anyone confirming Leopold's story
Edited on Sun May-14-06 08:59 AM by Halliburton
This is a huge story if it's true. When is Fitz' next scheduled appearance in DC? I guess we'll have to wait till then to get our confirmation one way or the other.

1. My thought
The Corporate Media has been cowed by the Dan Rather incident, so are waiting for official word from Fitz of his press conference.

20. true, but if this were the Clinton era, all you'd be hearing
from the mainstream whores would be: "The Drudge website is reporting that the architect of Clinton's presidency, has been indicted. What does this mean for Clinton's Republican opposition? How soon should Clinton kill himself?"

They're being bought and paid for presstitutes, as usual.

7. well I've always been wary of Leopold
and would like to see someone else confirm this article. Leopold and Truthout really put their entire credibility on the line here. I just hope they're right.

15. Me too
Remember before Christmas we were led to believe all kinds of indictments would be going down - we got Libby on perjury and that was it.
I wonder if Leopold is being played by these so-called sources in the WH.

16. Consider all the possibilities, sometimes the obvious thing is
the thing.

All we know is that it isn't confirmed, yet.

2. don't know... I thought Raw Story would have it by now..
people here have said the indictment is sealed, and that is why we have not heard - yet..

4. Big crackdown on leaks. The sources are afraid to talk to the MSM.

5. There's not much that can be done re: sealed indictments.
A sealed indictment can be used as something akin to legal blackmail by the state: a last ditch effort to intimidate a future defendant into "coming to Jesus" and cooperating on condition that the indictment stays sealed in order not to tip off other members of a conspiracy (as an example). I only know about this because of talk that Fitz has done this in organized crime cases. So, until a final deal is rejected and the indictment is unsealed and Rove has to answer charges in public, we don't know, we can't know, and that includes the media. I can't see Fitz' side leaking word of a sealed indictment. It's unwise to the extreme for Rove's legal team to leak word of a sealed indictment. Leopold's story depends on word of mouth that Rove informed the White House he'd been served with a sealed indictment, something which even the White House itself cannot confirm legitimately.

So this is the pentultimate story where you just can't double check until the fat lady sings.

27. "Fitz is very Smart...and knew Cheney would be in the News over..
The weekend, with Newsweek article and document! This was to lay the foundation for the imminent idictment of Rove. The american people will put two and two together, to see the corrupting Presidency as it truly IS. To dump on Friday, would be insane with all the dirty laundry coming. Now they have all their talking heads on to smooth over what is going to happen Monday and prolly have next week sewed up, to defend the Chimp!!!

8. It Appears Mr. Fitzgerald Isn't Answering His Calls
My dearly departed and missed mother would remind me..."good things come to those who wait".

Seems like Tweety's false alarm on Friday has set the blogosphere into overdrive about this. I remember all the speculation around the eventual Libby indictment...with claims of over 20 indictments coming down and a list of not one but several WH asshats...it didn't quite turn out that way.

The Grand Jury has time scheduled on Wednesdays and Fridays...that doesn't always mean that Fitzgerald is meeting with them or that they're even meeting at all.

I know we all want to ride on Holden's pony...but that ride will have to wait.

In the meantime how about comments about what Fitzgerald did reveal last week...Crashcart's notations next to Wilson's article...now that's what I consider "hugh"...

10. I think the
first indication we're going to get that it's going down will be a media alert on his web page.

That's how he usually does it.

21. The media is doing their job and not printing unverified info?
I'm in favor of responsible journalism no matter if I like what it reports or not. The information can evidently not be responsibly verified by another independent reliable source yet.

22. The first post I saw of the Leopold story mentioned that Jason L.
would get all the respect he deserves for breaking this. It seemed to me rather odd to post a breaking story and narrate what it would mean to the breaker in one of the very first posts.

Seems J.L. is getting leaks from the WH that nobody else is. Somehow he is special. Special treatment. And with this WH that doesn't bode well. The longer the story is not confirmed - the more I think he is being tooled with.

24. Precisely.
One must ask why a whole brace of WH aides would choose to leak only to an obscure (in the larger picture) left-wing web journalist. He's obviously not the only person looking for scoops. There's more than one possible explanation, but in any case this does not add up.

26. He's not obscure (thought I get what you mean). He has broken
more than one story. Perhaps now is his time to be diminished, humiliated, and all of us who follow him.

The longer this goes on without any secondary confirmation.. the worse it looks.

25. No one else wants to...it is Sunday and time for the daily
MSM propaganda. I have no doubt Rove was indicted and it WILL have to be brought up, no matter how painful to the MSM, sooner rather than later. Give it some more time.

Remember how they didn't wanna tell him how bad Katrina hit & he had to come back to D.C. early? Temper temper temper
