In praise of Country Joe McDonald
Last night, I had the good fortune to attend a concert featuring Country Joe, among many other SF musicians such as Jefferson Starship members and Tom Constantin.

Country Joe is as timely and passionate as ever about our country. His new tune "Support the Troops" was written after a visit with Cindy Sheehan and was dedicated last night to her son Casey.

After the tune a koolaid drinker from the balcony who apparently couldn't comprehend the song asked Joe "What are you talking about?". Joe shot right back: "I served in the US Navy with an honorable discharge, and I got a right to say WTF what I want to say!!" The heckler replied: "So do I". Joe answered: "Yeah you do, but I didn't come here to listen to you!"

The audience loudly supported Joe, but there were quite a few who held their seats. It's going to be a long haul.

Joe has a link to email him from the site (link above). Please drop him a line of support if you agree!

1. I had the good fortune to hear that when he was here in colorado springs
last weekend with the Starship. . .in this heavily military town, he got roaring approval from the crowd. It is good to see that he still has the same fire and passion.

2. Wow! How cool! I wondered what had happened to him.
There was a post weeks ago about why there aren't more protest songs and I had to quote Joe (1-2-3-4 what are we fightin' for) Going to his link.

3. Country Joe disappointed me a bit
when he repudiated his famous anti-Vietnam Woodstock song a number of years back. Perhaps he did it in a fit of Politically Correct or something, but I rather wish he'd held tighter to his beliefs, which were so perfectly expressed back then.

Good that he's out there now, and good that he's on the side of the angels once again.

6. I think he's sensitive about the vets
Joe seems to be pretty passionate about his support for the Vietnam vets, not the war. I think his stance on the 'ol tune was intended to clarify his support for the vets.

7. I can go with that
His heart is true, and I refuse to believe otherwise.

Thanks for the clarification. It feels better.
