I hope Carl Sheeler gives them a showing!

Dear Friend,

Rhode Island: Whitehouse is our candidate

Rhode Island Atty. Gen. Sheldon Whitehouse
The biggest news out of Rhode Island is that Secretary of State Matt Brown dropped out of the race, leaving former State Attorney General Sheldon Whitehouse as the presumptive Democratic nominee.

Brown is a class act and added value to this campaign. Now that he has bowed out and endorsed Whitehouse, Democrats in Rhode Island can focus all their efforts on the most important goal - unseating incumbent Republican Senator Lincoln Chafee.

Make no mistake; Chafee is ready for a tumble. The extremists who vote in Republican primaries don't like him, but he's too far out of the mainstream to win in November.

Chafee is facing a serious primary challenger from Cranston Mayor Steve Laffey that has fored the NRSC to waste money they could otherwise spend against Democrats in November. The Club for Growth - usually a reliable ally for Republicans - has been hammering Chafee on Rhode Island TV.

On the other hand, Lincoln Chafee has proven himself too far out of the mainstream to win in November. For example, he has voted to place on the bench every single one of Bush's extremist judges. And he just recently voted to confirm a controversial EPA nominee, despite ardent opposition from the environmental community Chafee claims to represent.

Now that Sheldon Whitehouse is our candidate in Rhode Island, I'm more confident than ever that we can defeat Lincoln Chafee in November.

2. No
I believe the primary will be held in September.

The operative word in this statement is "presumptive."

Sheldon got the endorsement of the Democratic party last week. Carl's still in the running but the media and the party is scarcely helping him.
