Shock of shock
McCain flip flops on Falwell and how is he portayed this morning. As a principled maverick who delivers straight talk. He isn't unprincipled he is smart. Of course Hillary is an unprincipled ho when she takes positions which might help her.

1. A lot of McCain's early support was bipartisan, from a group that
often felt themselves to be independent voters, more drawn to the candidate than the party affiliation.

McCain is jeopardizing that support by playing pussyfoot with Falwell.

I'm not sure Senator Clinton ever had that sort of support among independents.

2. just out of curiousity...
What IS the consensus on McCain as a Presidential candidate?
He doesn't seem too popular around here, but does he really have a shot at the White House?

Is he trying to de-polarize a truly nasty situation here, or just slinging the bull?

And he's going to give this particular plea/address a second shot.

Has he got a chance, or is this a political train wreck?

3. McCain used to be
one of the few politicians with the (R) by his name that I could stomach, because for the most part he did what he felt was right, not what his fellow party members were doing. Also, it seemed like the pieces of legislation he pulled for actaully made sense, like campaign finance reform (as opposed to a bridge to nowhere in Alaska, so f*** you Ted Stevens). But now with his possible run for the White House in 08, it seems to me like McCain is turning his back on his maverick persona in order to gather votes from within his own party. It is kind of sad that a guy who seemed like an exception to the rules of politics is all of a sudden playing the party lines, but he's probably just doing what he feels needs to be done to get in the White House.

4. IMO McCain is a big danger
Even if he goes to Liberty he probably still won't set off "ordinary" people's nutjob radar. We need the mouth-breathers to nominate one of their own like Santorum or Brownback. McCain might just get the GOP's ducks in a row enough for them to squeak through their gerrymandered districts, and then the whole mess would keep going.

5. Santorum is a blow hard
He'll be lucky to win his own state, let alone the whole GOP vote of confidence. Most politicians I can stand. I might not like all of them, but I give most of them the time of day. Santorum is one of the few who if i saw him walking down the street, I'd punch him in the mouth. Piece of shit.
