Bush is in trouble. Take cover.
Edited on Mon May-15-06 09:29 PM by bigtree
Our president is in deep trouble. Patrick Fitzgerald broke up Bush's muckrakers club months ago when he lifted Libby for lying to the prosecutor, in effect, 'throwing sand in the umpire's eyes'. Today it was Cheney's turn in the liar's seat with the release of the Joe Wilson NYT op-ed which questioned the use of the uranium claim in Bush's SOTU, and contained Cheney's handwritten notes scribbling out the outline of his future assault on the ambassador and his wife.

It's hard for me to wrap my head around the fact that Bush has carte blanche to deploy our military wherever, whenever he pleases in the face of Congress' inability, or unwillingness, to take responsibility and call the president to account. Yet, here we are. We're at the mercy of a counterfeit, paranoid loser who hid out on Air Force One, flying around the country to 'keep out of harm's way' after the World Trade Center was hit.

Amazingly, we're being told that we should tolerate another open-ended deployment of scarce troops, like in Iraq, for another political stunt - this time on our own border with Mexico - to demonstrate the only relevant trick this inept, lame-duck knows: Riding in on his high horse behind our hapless soldiers, claiming victory even as they continue to fall victim to the retributions and recriminations of his jingoistic aggressions in Iraq, Afghanistan, and against Iran.

Little wonder Bush wants to cover himself in the glory that comes with command of our fine forces, but his scheme to distract from his failed presidency is laid bare by the shameless tragedy of the deaths of those who gave their lives and livelihoods prosecuting his dirty wars, or by those who were slaughtered in the path of the deadly swagger of the contrived Texan's military campaigns of shock and awe.

To be sure, there will be those who dismiss the importance Bush's proposal to deploy soldiers to our border with Mexico. Six thousand National Guard troops on the US-Mexico border, as Bush proposed, won't make much of a difference in plugging the 2,000 mile illusion that we call a border. It won't stop folks from trying to cross.

It will take up to 156,000 troops to maintain that force level on the border with proper rotation, something this military just can't get around to doing with any sincerity and intention in Iraq and Afghanistan.

There's a suggestion that we build a 'super fence', electrified to keep folks out; ostensibly keeping us locked in with this cornered megalomaniac. We've got Cheney playing Strangelove as he travels to Eastern Europe trolling for a new cold war with Russia. The official presidential reader, Condi, is bound to burst on the scene at any minute, castigating the men for their impudent inaction.

Who can be sanguine about a leader in domestic crisis with as much of an arsenal as the commander of the U.S. military oiligarchy has at his disposal? There should be a real concern among our representatives about the prospect for another trumped up assault, on yet another sovereign nation, to cover up the swelling sea of scandal that threatens to envelop this regime.

Lies on top of other lies, to cover up still more lies. That's the legacy that faces Bush, no matter what he chooses to end his term. Thousands died because of his lies. They continue to die in multiples each day as a result of his militarism.

Bush is in deep trouble. That means we will have to bear whatever dodge he uses in his attempt to escape accountability. They all duck responsibility the same way. They get a hold on our destinies. They use our lives as foils for the practice of their ideology.

We desperately need to pry their hands loose from the throat of our democracy and speak truth to power to effect the change we want to see. We need to pry his hands loose from our troops before he falls. They've sacrificed enough for his lies.

4. Yep, I've been visualizing and praying... Just let go. Let go. Let go.
Just step away from the Presidency. Leave. If you leave right now, we will investigate and reveal the whole sordid truth, but we will not imprison you. Just imagine a new life in the South of France. They speak English there, they do! And you can learn English.

Just let go. Step away.

I've also been calling Senators and Congresspersons... Donating to good organizations and so forth.

20. Not so - read about that push poll.
Something like do you support our glorious pResident in his efforts to catch TERRAISTS, or do you support the terraist supporting commies.

I've paraphrased a lot, but you get the gist.

It was a useless poll, and DEFINITELY not accurate.

Anybody have a link to the analysis?

30. It's Truly Pathetic How Foolish People Desperately Cling To Propoganda
as some sort of justification for breaking the law and violating the constitution.

If it's polls that are important to YOU in determining what is and isn't right or wrong, well, here's a poll done later and more accurately than the piece of tripe your desperately clinging to:

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/12771821/site/newsweek /

NEWSWEEK Poll: Americans Wary of NSA Spying
Bush’s approval ratings hit new lows as controversy rages.

May 13, 2006 - Has the Bush administration gone too far in expanding the powers of the President to fight terrorism? Yes, say a majority of Americans, following this week’s revelation that the National Security Agency has been secretly collecting the phone records of U.S. citizens since the September 11 terrorist attacks. According to the latest NEWSWEEK poll, 53 percent of Americans think the NSA’s surveillance program “goes too far in invading people’s privacy,” while 41 percent see it as a necessary tool to combat terrorism.

--snip--

I suppose if a poll showed 60% of the people supported infanticide in the name of fighting terrorism, then Chimpy killing a baby live on TV would be OK by you! :eyes: Pathetic.

36. What A Stupid Fucking Thing to Say

That is a comment worth of somebody like Ann Coulter--suggesting such a parallel--infanticide and approving of baby killing because somebody reported a poll result. If you don't like the result, great. I didn't comment on the poll--I just told you what the result was.

Other people beside you can read, friend. I understand there have been subsequent polls that show 40% approve of the NSA spying (which is really not that much more encouraging that the 63% number that seems to really get your milligrams rockin'). Jesuc Christ, people like YOU are such a pain in the ass because you don't want to look at the facts that don't please you. Are you SURE you're not a Republican?

26. I often wondered why they didn't round up the immigration protesters
Edited on Tue May-16-06 07:16 AM by Chimichurri
like they did the war protesters. I wouldn't be surprised if Bushco welcomed it to get the rest of america busy embroiled in immigration issues so they could trot out the detention camps, put military in police positions and nationalize biometric IDs. Except the majority of americans will be too blinded by the idea that this is only an "illegal" immigrant measure and fail to realize the extreme nature of these new policies. By the time the abuse becomes out of hand - like we all know is Bush's MO, it will be too late to reverse it.

Lets not forget there was a complete media blackout of the war protests yet the immigration protests were all over the news for weeks. I have to suspect the WH wanted immigration as another smoke screen to further the annihilation of our Constitution. Again, another ruse in the name of "securing our borders". It's ok to have the military picking off civilians because if we don't then the "illegals" win. Yes, america, we need your fingerprints for your new national id cards or else the "illegals" are going to get your job. Yes, America, we need these detention centers to keep you safe from these "illegals". You see where this is going, right?

27. everything the Bush regime does is to divide and take advantage
Rove counted on immigration becoming THE wedge issue for the remainer of Bush's term, with Bush acting like the statue of liberty, only this one clubs you with the torch as you pass.

I also can't help notice that the military is slowly insinuating themselves in every aspect of our lives. We already pay over 60% of our involuntary tax contributions to militarism, in some form or another. The deployment could start out for 'illegals' and then be turned against the law-abiding rest of us.

I found this quote a few years back:

At Edwardsville, Illinois, on September 11, 1858, Abraham Lincoln said, "What constitutes the bulwark of our own liberty and independence is not our frowning battlements, our bristling seacoast, the guns of our war steamers, or the strength of our gallant and disciplined army. These are not the reliance against the resumption of tyranny in our fair land. All of them may be turned against our liberties without making us stronger or weaker for the struggle."

"Our reliance is in the love of liberty, which God has planted in our bosoms. Our defense is the preservation of the spirit, which prizes liberty as the heritage of all men, in all lands everywhere." Destroy this spirit and you have planted the seeds of despotism at your down doors."

"Familiarize yourselves with the chains of bondage,"
Lincoln warned, and you prepare your own limbs to wear them. Accustomed to trample on the rights of others, you have lost the genius of your own independence and become the fit subjects of the first cunning tyrant who rises among you."

We need to get busy preserving liberty. Despotism has blossomed into fascism in the White House. The tyrant reigns supreme.

35. Mexico Threatens Suits Over Guard Patrols
Edited on Tue May-16-06 07:07 PM by bigtree
CIUDAD JUAREZ, Mexico (AP) -- Mexico warned Tuesday it would file lawsuits in U.S. courts if National Guard troops detain migrants on the border and some officials said they fear the crackdown will force illegal crossers into more perilous areas to avoid detection.

Presidential hopeful Felipe Calderon of Fox's National Action Party issued a statement that the military presence would endanger migrants without stopping them.

"These measures have been proven mistaken. They increase the social and human costs for migrants and only benefit criminal groups that make money on the hopes and suffering of those looking for an opportunity," Calderon said.

Salvadoran President Tony Saca said he was worried that there could be an increase in abuses against immigrants because National Guard troops are trained to handle natural disasters and wars.
