San Bernardino to Vote on Immigrant Plan

By GILLIAN FLACCUS Associated Press Writer

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. — A proposal that would impose sweeping restrictions
on the ability of illegal immigrants to live and work in the city will be put
before voters after the City Council refused to adopt it.

The proposal would prohibit landlords from renting to undocumented people,
force day laborers to prove legal residency to work, ban taxpayer-funded day-labor
centers, mandate that city business be in English and deny permits to businesses
hiring illegal immigrants.

The City Council's 6-1 decision to send the measure to voters Monday was greeted
with cheers from both supporters and opponents. Both sides promised major campaigns
to sway voters in this city where nearly half of residents are Hispanic.

The election must be held in 90 to 135 days.

1. San Bernardino has one of the most corrupt election systems in the state
of California. It was one of the county's whose election chief tried to sue the elected Democratic Secretary of State Kevin Shelley after Shelley had sued Diebold and de-certified the worst of their election theft machines, prior to the 2004 election. Shelly was trying to ride herd on the out-of-control corruption of country election officials wrought by Tom Delay's and Bob Ney's "Hack America's Vote Act" of 2002 (a $4 billion boondoggle for Bushite electronics corporations). It was Shelley who got Calif the first mandated paper trail in the nation, the option for voters of a paper ballot, a ban on "revolving door" employment, a ban on Diebold touchscreens, and other reforms. The most corrupt county officials conspired to get rid of him. SB county election officials joined with several other corrupt county election officials in the "swiftboating" of Kevin Shelley, who was driven out of office on completely bogus corruption charges, in 2005, most likely in a black op directed by the Bush junta. SB used to be a good union town; it has been taken over by rightwing Bushites whose modus operandi is stolen elections. The new Bushite-corporate controlled electronic voting systems, with their 'TRADE SECRET,' PROPRIETARY programming code and virtually no audit/recount controls, makes it so-o-o-o-o easy.

SB was no doubt a particular target of the fascists in Calif BECAUSE of its big Hispanic population. Gotta keep those brown people from voting. Another target: Los Angeles--which has THE most corrupt county election official in the state and possibly in the country (although there's a lot of competition)--Diebold shill Connie McCormack, who actually does sales brochures for Diebold, and whose best friend--wines, dines and vacations with--is the former chief Diebold salesperson in Calif, Deborah Seiler, who NOW works as a San Joaquin County registrar.

So, good luck to the good voters of San Bernardino County in trying to stop this fascist, anti-immigrant ballot measure. The Bushites have destroyed the country, so they're onto this anti-brown thing as a last resort issue. It's not a real issue; it's just a war protifeering corporate news monopoly narrative to explain the "miraculous" Bushite recovery in November, engineered by Diebold/ES&S election theft machines. And unless SB county citizens rise up and seize back public control of their election system, they are going to have the Gestapo at their doors, dragging brown people into the streets in the dead of night and spiriting them away to "detention" centers and worse.

Congressional bills:

Russ Holt's HR 550 requires a real paper ballot, bans secret software in "voting machines", and has more than 170 co-sponsors, but the audit required is too weak, it promotes electronic voting and centralized power, and the secret software might be permitted to continue in the central tabulators (the bill is not clear). (Note: Senate Bill-SB 330 and House-HR704 simply require a "voter verified paper audit trail" (VVPAT), which may be best for the moment.)
