Why not just invade Mexico and make it a state?
I mean according to estimates we have up to 20 million illegal aliens in the United States. According to the UN, Mexico only has a popularion of a bit over 100 million. Already 1 in 5 Mexicans live in the US legally and illegally.

And with this guest worker program, we are going to allow in 1.2 million per year. Within 50 years, most of the Mexican population will be living in America at the current rate of birth and immigration.

Mexico is going to be a state in about 50 years.

2. Just Start a Rumor...
That if the Mexican People would just overthrow their own government, we'd take them on as a Territory leading to full statehood.

Mexicans would do it in a heartbeat!

11. Why would we do that? We won it!
The Mexican government signed the treaty of Guadalupe-Hidalgo in 1845. In fact, the Mexicans are lucky they have a country at all. President Polk (I think it was Polk) wanted to originally take over ALL of Mexico. And we could have. But the Northern free states thought that if Mexico is taken in as a state that it would give the South too much of a majority in congress and the electoral college. This was a period where the tentions were starting to build for the Civil War. So that was a major concern back then.

The Mexicans do not have anymore claim to the Southwest US than the British have to the 13 colonies. A war was fought. A peace treaty was signed. According to intenational law, that land is 100% ours and the Mexicans have ZERO claim to it.

But to the USA, sovereign means able to be forcible overtaken.

19. It's been like what? over 150 years with this policy???
America won't change. We've been this way for 150 years. And when America is dead. Some other nation will just take over the role of ruling the world.

Empires changing hands...been going on for thousands of years.

21. Well, have to disagree with you there...
And maybe it isn't what you wrote about... I for one will not let America die. I will die first defending her. We will get these evil murderous bastards out of office - one way or another.

And maybe it is another country.

But I know that there are about 295,000,000 people here that eventually, when they cannot go to MacDonald's and watch American Idol, they will get off their asses and revolt.

When your life is threaten - we will respond and in force. I just hope it is sooner than later.

And, I strive for a peaceful solution first - but when they 'come for me' they are toast.... (or me)

8. This is America
We don't invade other countries without a reason.....uhhh
wait a minute...:(
However, how bout we just be good neighbors? We can start with not dumping our grain in their country thereby making theirs worthless which takes away jobs, takes food off the table, etc. and increases the poverty in that country.
I've read about "this plan" in RW talking point emails.
By the same token...why not invade Canada and take their healthcare?
I'd rather have Canada.
Can we write someone and state our preference for the next country we want to illegally invade?

14. Please link to those "estimates"
Most experts would cut that number in half, and it also includes a substantial percentage of undocumented workers from other parts of Central and South America and the world.

And if "most of the Mexican population" will be here in 50 years, why invade them now?

Is this really intended to be a constructive post?

17. US Census estimated it
There is no way to generate accurate statistics because there is no documentation for those here illegally. It could be even higher for all we know. A range of 10-20 million is a pretty large margin of error.
What they have been doing is trying to calculate how many people have come over the border on a yearly average (which is between 700,000 to 1 million per year). Then they times that number by twenty (2006-1986=20). They use 1986 because that is when amnesty was last granted.

Many Senators like using the 12-13 million number. I have no clue where they are getting that number from that claims to be so accurate.

20. If you have links to those U.S. census estimates, please post them
Edited on Tue May-16-06 10:02 PM by Ms. Clio
According to the Pew Hispanic Research Center from June, 2005:

The report builds on a previous report by Passel released in March that estimated the unauthorized population at 10.3 million as of March 2004 and examined its dispersal to a variety of new destinations. Given recent growth rates the number of unauthorized migrants now approaches 11 million. The first section of the new report reviews those estimates, and the report then goes on to present additional material that examines the current characteristics of the undocumented population for the first time.

http://pewhispanic.org/newsroom/releases/release.php?ReleaseID=33

So that's where the Senators are getting THEIR figures.

25. Why don't we invade your house and call it the District of DU?
Because it doesn't belong to us.

It is your space, your place and that should be respected and appreciated.

Your space is in many ways like that of the Indians space and their place. Why so many in the White community made them the scapegoat, demonized them, slaughtered them and killed them because they wanted what they had.

When you think about that, it is the ultimate in immaturity and infantile selfishness when certain humans never learn the capacity to share. That is a sign of evolution and maturity.

Although space is important to everyone of us, no land should or does for that matter, belong to any one person and it shouldn't be held hostage like most of our earth is today with fences and barbed wire.

The ownership/exclusionary society is yet another myth people have been sold over the centuries by those who have seized power through war, propaganda and religion which promotes an illusion that some people are more entitled to the land than others.

We should all have equal access to the land and respect it and its natural resources with the utmost care. Of course those who are abusing the planet and destroying are the ones who have seized power.
