Just a little something I submitted to my Senators, Representative, and local newspaper at Bob McCloskey's website.
If the United States is truly a nation of laws, then all who break those laws must be held accountable. The President is not above the law. Americans who honor the Constitution as the supreme law of our land have a responsibility, as citizens, to see that individuals who hold that august document in contempt--who willfully violate it, who consider themselves exempt from adhering to its clearly delineated restrictions of power--those scofflaws must face the consequences which are outlined in that same document.
The United States is a republic with three branches of government, designed specifically to prevent a dictatorial leader from seizing power. It is the sacred responsibility of the legislative branch to step up and prevent the current administration from succeeding in its relentless drive to grab absolute power, thereby destroying our democracy.
Please ignore the pundits. Impeachment is not a political maneuver. It is a necessary tool, foreseen by the architects of the Constitution. At this time in history, it is appropriate; it is necessary; it is your responsibility as an elected representative of the people; and it is your duty, if our democracy is to survive.
As usual, it is unlikely that any of them will pay attention to this message, but at least writing it gets out a bit of the frustration. Cheap therapy, if nothing else.
Here's the website if anyone else wants to send a message:
