Ian McKellen, My new hero!!!
Forget the fact that he is a GREAT actor. Or that he is probaly one of the best advocates for gay & human rights. He tells it how it is regarding the holy bible.

The freepers will be putting him on their death list soon. Can't wait to hear what good ole' Pat Robertson says about this!

1. Read the item
I'm a Christian, but I liked Sir Ian's comments.

This hullaballoo about Da Vinci Code is the silliest damn thing I have ever seen. God, I wish it would go away. So what if it insinuates Jesus survived the crucifixion? Scholarly books have insinuated that. Scholarly books have insinuated all kinds of things. So-called scholars -- and scientists -- have even believed the damndest things, many of which have had nothing at all to do with Christianity.

I don't care what Sir Ian's opinion of the bible is, though I acknowledge his correlations between it and the movie are valid. I don't care what Mr. Dan Brown writes his fiction about -- although he claims to incorporate history into the book and being a history buff myself I know that's not the case. What I do care is that people waste so much time huffing and puffing over a book and a movie when so much in the world remains untended -- or unresolved.

2. The TRUTH hurts deeply, so expect the unquestioning idiots to fry him.
It's already up on Drudge, so it's only a matter of time before Sir Ian is crucified in public for daring to SPEAK THE TRUTH. I do find it refreshing, however, to actually see someone with the balls to stand up for rational thought and Enlightenment ideals.

3. He stated the truth. The bible is fiction.
In my opinon, the bible is a collection of contemporary novels of that time.

6. When the "christians" start acting up about things like this....
It defeats their purpose. They create a controversy, so now tons of people who would never have seen the movie now will.

I'm a liberal christian. Ian McKellan's remarks don't change my opinion of him nor do they affect my spirituality or my view of the Bible. My faith would be worth nothing if it crumbled everytime someone criticized it.

I do think the Bible has value, both historically and spiritually, as long as one doesn't fall into the fundamentalism trap. Fundamentalists freak out about movies like this because they believe that the Bible is word for word the literal word of God, so to keep faith, one must either ignore all criticism of scripture or one's faith crumbles at the first mind-boggling contradiction within scripture. The Bible contains mysteries and parables, things worthy of study, but not every chapter and verse is equal to the other.

7. I got the site
from Drudge. A friend who claims they are "A political" sent me this. They knew how much I respect Ian & thought it would make my blood boil. It did just the opposite. By the way, for anyone interested, Ian has a great website which he contributes to regularly.
