Why don't they have Robots do the work Americans won't?
Can't they just make robots to replace the immigrant migrant workers? No more invasions from Mexico, no citizenship requirements, robots could pick our strawberries and grapes.

We'd have to put out money for the robots to be built, but that's it, then we could hire just a few illegal immigrants to maintain the robots.

Surely no one has a problem with robots, they work at the absolute minimum wage, never complain, and they will never turn on us or wave the robot flag in protest.

Also, they wouldn't 'change the character' of our nation, like all these Mexicans do.

Whaddaya think?

1. Some tasks have been mechanized.
When I was a kid, cotton was all picked by hand. No more. But many agricultural tasks demand the care and judgment that only a human being can exercise. Otherwise, I think you're being pretty snarky about the issue.

2. The Chinese could build them
The Indians in New Delhi could program them.

And the Mexicans could deploy them in the fields.

No American would ever have to lift a finger - except to Shrub.

7. I was thinking of a Niven story...
where a criminal ducks into a restaurants all robotic kitchen to elude police, and is mistaken for just another bit of meat.

Having a melon-shaped head makes me fear agribotics.

6. They are working on it
Some things seem to need a human hand so far, strawberries and some other fruits for instance are easy to damage and can be hard to pick out without moving foliage and a house cleaning robot is still a ways off. As they get robotics worked out better with better sight and a softer touch, they'll do it. They've got models for some of it being tested now, just a matter of time and getting the cost down.
