19. lol...you are probably right
Also, as an aside, I'd like to make a comment regarding the * speech from last night. He said all illegals should:

1. not break any laws
2. learn English
3. have a good paying job of several years

My response to that is..... YOU FIRST!!!!!!!

a couple of weeks ago and saw the "Terror Alert: High" (or "yellow", can't remember :-) ) and laughed because I didn't realize that was still even used. Only on Fox, I guess.

14. No problem, as long as the fence in question
is ON the border. I hope they don't try to pull a peace-fence type a deal Sharon pulled on West Bank. Its all good as long as the fence in question doesn't extend 12 miles into Mexican territory.

15. I am a bit creeped out by the idea of fencing off our borders.
Other governments, in the not so-distant-past, have used border fences to keep people in as well as to keep them out. A bit of tinfoil-hattery? Maybe. But when you think about the other fascist schemes we've watched the criminals now running the government have come up with -- well, it's just another unsettling thing. Right now it's just to keep the Mexicans out, or so they say, and I haven't heard about any plans to build a fence along the Canadian border. Yet. When I see barbed wire and guard towers on the outskirts of Pembina, MN, it might really be time to worry.

31. Actually, I knew a restaurant owner...
who hired an illegal immigrant worker (Mexican or Central American) to wash dishes. He mentioned that the fellow was taking a couple of days off because he was going up to the Canadian border to smuggle his mother into the U.S. I'm guessing that his mom flew to Canada.

Building a wall is O.K., but if a wall is built across the 2,000 mile southern border, people will still find a way in, probably by way of Canada.

If we want to stop terrorism, we need to protect both borders. If we want to reduce illegal immigration, we need to penalize the employers who are drawing them here.

We have the money to waste on this idiotic idea but not the money for healthcare. Are Americans really this gullible? Who gets rich off the construction? Let me guess.

33. Who gets rich? Lockheed Martin, Raytheon and Northrop Grumman
WASHINGTON, May 17 — The quick fix may involve sending in the National Guard. But to really patch up the broken border, President Bush is preparing to turn to a familiar administration partner: the nation's giant military contractors.

Lockheed Martin, Raytheon and Northrop Grumman, three of the largest, are among the companies that said they would submit bids within two weeks for a multibillion-dollar federal contract to build what the administration calls a "virtual fence" along the nation's land borders.

18. Unless you're going to put one National Guardsman every 25 ft.
along its length, it won't stop anyone.

And it's kind of chilling to think about from our own perspective. Fences keep people IN as well as OUT.

I don't WANT to live in an armed camp.

Then put Duuuuhbya,Cheney,Rummy and all the rest of those traitors on the other side.I'll help build it!

On a more important note,I haven't seen much oppostion to the Bio Metric reference that Heir Duuuuhbya proposed. That was the most frightening idea he put forth.Totally unacceptable for any right thinking american to even consider.

Edited on Wed May-17-06 10:13 PM by Canuckistanian
This guy was saying that the southern US/Northern Mexico are has always been filled with Spanish speaking peoples and he resented being called a foreigner in his own ancestral land.

He said, "We didn't cross the border, the border crossed us".

Edited on Wed May-17-06 11:12 PM by wildwww2
Probably not but I think it is a good idea. I wonder if 67% of DUers would agree with me? Lets fence in those rightwing idiots and their stupid polls. They really are trying to energize Bu$h`s racist base. A fence along the mexican border. I do not think I have ever heard a more ignorant and unworkable idea in my entire life. Oh, except maybe to invade Iraq for bullcrap reasons with no real plan for success whatsoever.

37. I hear ya...
i'd love to be able to build an electronic fence around the MSM that feed nothing but lies, and hype crises.

weird. most DU'rs seem to get it when it's someother phony issue, like they seem to get it with the Terry Schievo case - but this one is about "those brown people" ..

never mind that this has been going on for decades and decades by Europeans, Asians, and others from all over the globe - just that they don't come over the southern border, they come over in an airplane instead. Except the Cubans seem to come over by boat, and it's perfectly ok they don't enter the United States with permission/papers and citizenship first.

Amazing hypocrisy.

34. A fence is assinine!
The Texas border is 1200 miles long, an effiecient fence would cost billions and also wildlife doesn't know about borders and their home ranges will be screwed up, water flows disrupted, etc. Besides only 20% of the "illegals" are Mexican, how do we keep out the Chinese, Indians, Pakistanis, various Euros, etc.?

If people really want to stop illegal immigration they need to stop it at the employers. You can build a 100 foot fence that runs the length of the boarder, but as long as there is a reason for people to take such risks to cross the boarder they will.

36. I Voted NO!
People enter this country legally with a Visa and will stay if that's what it will take - they will come over the border vis a vis trains planes, trucks, bicycles and automobiles - they will swim, surf or sky dive ... they will find a part of the border under or over the ground somewhere where there is no fucking fence if they are that desperate, and quite obviously millions are that desperate.

i swear to goddess, let the MSM manufacture a phony crises, and watch the stupid american lemmings follow the plot line.
