4. Actually...
I think that the newsanchors in San Diego in the '70s were the inspiration. Harold Greene (who later went to Los Angeles) was a big influence, from what I've heard. I know that when I first saw the ads for the Burgundy film, I burst out laughing because the reporters looked like reporters we had in San Diego way back when.

6. Bill Kurtis was another inspiration
now on some cable show, but in the 70's and 80's a star anchorman in Chicago.

Kurtis did the narration for the movie, which was a big kick. :-)
