Markos (Daily KOS) stars in new Ned Lamont ad
Edited on Thu May-18-06 11:37 AM by newyawker99
The new Ned Lamont ads have started running in CT...they're, uh...not like any campaign ad you've seen before. They're said to be "edgy." Some say they're too cute. I like 'em, just for the record. A definite shout out to the blogging and internet community. ANd they are in stark contrast to Leiberbush's staid, standard fare showing low camera angles of the Traitor with his arm around women, children and various delusional war supporters.

Here is a Hartford Courant story on the new ads, and Markos...

Lamont Debuts `Edgy Cute' Ads
May 18, 2006
By MARK PAZNIOKAS, Courant Staff Writer

Ned Lamont aired the first television commercials of his Senate campaign Wednesday, two spots by an adman known for edgy and offbeat ways to make his clients stand out during busy campaign seasons.

The initial ads by Bill Hillsman on behalf of Lamont's challenge of Sen. Joseph I. Lieberman leaned more on cute than edgy - with a surprise gesture to an important constituency: Internet bloggers.

"But they're edgy cute, not Ziggy cute," said Liz Dupont-Diehl, a Lamont spokeswoman.

A 60-second spot that aired Wednesday with heavy play begins as do dozens of other political ads: The candidate is seated on a couch, staring earnestly into the camera.

"Hi, I'm Ned Lamont. I'm a Democrat. I'm running for U.S. Senate," Lamont says.

2. They ads never say who he is
So it almost more of an "inside joke," I guess.

6. sort of like Absolut Warhol and the rest of the series, huh
But even if people just see him as an actor, it still works.

Plus, the media will probably pick up on it, and spread the "inside story". Don't they eat stuff like that up?

4. I saw it last night
On the local Cox cable outfit in CT, it aired during the last commercial block during The Colbert Report. A nice start, but they need better time slots.

I liked seeing Kos, but he wasn't identified so the "celebrity" factor is lost on most folks. Hopefully this is a trend for others (AAR folks, the Young Turks, etc.) to stand up and send a message, not just to CT voters, but to the Dem leaders.

5. Personally, I thought the ads were pretty good.
I don't care who's in the ads, I just want JoeBlowjob out of office.

8. I saw a nice bumper sticker at the store the other day...
Simple, elegant, on the back of a mini-ute...

"ANTI-WAR. ANTI-JOE."

I stopped and complimented the driver, just getting into his car. He looked a bit stunned, actually!
