Here's the reason they think marriage is under attack:
If gay marriage was legitimized, most closeted gay Republicans would have no further excuse...they'd have to come out of the closet, and end their sham, loveless, fake marriages to what must be the saddest women on Earth.

I mean, look at Ashcroft for Chrissakes...that guy did musical numbers from the DOJ's podium. He's emblematic of that special Missouri brand of super-repressed, supergay capital 'C' Christian politician.

I figure it wouldn't wreck all marriages, just about 10% of Republican marriages.

I mean, that's about the size of it, right?

I think that, also, many people are afraid that others might think the married couple is gay just because they're married.

edit: In my office (small, local business), I'm one of only two people who are married. Several people are divorced with kids, most are single and one may have an out of wedlock child (I don't pry into people's personal lives so I have no idea if the co-worker was ever married. They've NEVER mentioned an ex-spouse or even said anything about the mother of the child. In fact, I've never seen the child at all.). There are people in their 40s here who have never been married at all and have no children.

I'm married with a step-daughter. The other married person has no children or stepchildren.

All of these people but one are white and all are Christians, one of whom is very devout.

So who, exactly, is destroying marriage? White, Christian, straight people? Apparently.

They mostly seem to be Republicans (one I'm not sure about.)

So, WHY THE HELL ARE THEY NOT MARRIED AND REPRODUCING? :grr: Hypocrites.

3. This is why Governor Schwarzenegger has said,
"Gay marriage should be between an man and a woman."

4. It is not marriage that is under attack. It is THEIR marriage that is
under attack. Good point.

"I wonder why there are so (your words) "super-repressed, supergay capital "C" politicians?"

If you look at what types of careers gay men, (only going to used gay men now) are in most people think of acting, singing, hair dresser, interior design - all things artsy. But there seems to be an overwhelming number of closeted gay men in politics. Maybe the difference is the word "closet". Maybe these men would rather be interior decorators but it LOOKS too gay. And I guess a politician is very much an actor in disguise - especially a fundy one.

I HOPE I did not offend anyone. I have just been thinking out loud here.

5. Well, the real reason: SOMETHING always has to be under attack
for them to energize their base and distract them enough to not notice how badly Republicans are screwing them.

6. They don't really think marriage is under attack.
They're just upset over men having sex.
