In 2003, President Bush told the American people on national television that any individual in his government who was involved in any way concerning the outing of CIA agent Valerie Plame would be fired or asked to resign. On numerous occasions the president’s own father on national television disclosed that any individual in government, regardless of his position, who disclosed the identity of any intelligence undercover agent was “a traitor to the country.”
The special counsel, Patrick Fitzgerald, who is investigating the outing of the CIA undercover agent and the secret disclosures which resulted in the agent being compromised, and along with the intelligence operation, has obtained a June 12, 2003, memo concerning Cheney and his chief of staff, I. Lewis “Scooter” Libby.
This previously undisclosed memo of June 12, 2003, shows the vice president was more deeply involved than previously known concerning this matter. Subsequent to a meeting between Cheney and Libby, it is alleged in a United States five-count criminal indictment, Libby provided unauthorized information to the news media which resulted in detrimental danger to the United States government and compromised the cover of a CIA officer.
Until this matter is resolved by the special counsel, concerning Cheney and his chief of staff, Libby, it is highly unwarranted for the chancellor of LSU to have the vice president speak at the LSU graduation ceremony.
