WASHINGTON - First Lady Laura Bush is to appear at a June 16 fund-raising luncheon in Scottsdale for U.S. Sen. Jon Kyl, R-Ariz., who is being challenged by former state Democratic Party chairman Jim Pederson in his bid for a third Senate term this fall.

The $500 person luncheon is to be held at the Hilton Scottsdale Resort and Villas, Republicans announced Thursday.

"The Arizona Republican Party is happy to learn the First Lady is coming to Arizona to add her support to Sen. Kyl's reelection campaign," said Garrick Taylor, a spokesman for the state GOP.

"We are delighted that First Lady Laura Bush is coming to Arizona to help Senator Kyl," said Andy Chasin, a Kyl campaign spokesman.
