Some of you may recall that in 2002 there was a closely contested Senate race in New Hampshire between the Governor Jeanne Shaheen and Republican John Sununu. The Republican won in a close battle, but we learned soon after that a senior RNC official conducted an illegal phone jamming scheme to jam the phones at Shaheen's get-out-the-vote call center. In what could have made the difference in this race, Democratic voters seeking to find their voting locations couldn't reach the call center. An interesting piece of this story is that the man in charge of this operation, Jim Tobin, made two dozen calls to the White House in three days around election day.
Of course this is a serious crime and Tobin, who was later named New England chair of the Bush-Cheney campaign, was just sentenced to ten months in jail. Two other Republican party officials have been convicted
but the answers we don't have yet are why were two dozen calls made to the White House by Tobin and what was discussed in these conversations?http://www.conyersblog.us/Ex-Official Gets 10 Mos. in Phone-Jam Plot
