Duke Rape Redux! TruthRoveOut Galore! Why isn't this HAYDEN DAY on DU?
Given the subjects that can swamp GD and/or GDP at time, seems odd that Monday night there are almost no Hayden threads on GD or GDP. Given that thread Skinner posted about how to groom more thoughtful discussion threads, where are the threads on today's hearings?

Yes, search is there-- the question is how come this is such a non-starter on the top of the main big boards?

Isn't it a big deal that the architect of the NSA wiretapping program (that the President proudly announced violated FISA) is before Congress, before a committee TAKING SERIOUSLY his nomination to head the CIA?

Malloy says it comes down to whether nation wants the CIA to protect the safety of the American people or the interests of the "Bush Crime Family."

What the hell are we talking about here?

2. Great TY. I didn't stop by Greatest--
"I shouldn't even be listening to this sham of a hearing because it's nothing more than a conversation between collusionists and we will get no real answers."

Funny-- when I read your OP, I saw "a conversation between columnists"-- which is what the news looked like tonight. Pundits propping up the charade, catapulting the propaganda.........................

"When all is said and done, Hayden will be confirmed and the American people will be 'conditioned' to accept whatever injustices they're told they must. All in the name of fucking protection. And our Democratic leaders stay mum."

There is a real danger in bypassing the part where the FISA violations are (NOT) investigated and skip right to APPOINT THE MOFO TO RUN THE FUKKING AGENCY.

"Sorry for my rant, but I really just can't take it anymore. I can't take the big lie anymore."

I'm with you. This is too much. I called my senator and said so.

And the fact that it's a big yawner on DU........ maybe there's a lot of people smarter than me that have just GIVEN UP ALTOGETHER.

4. Thanks for reading my post.
I'll tell you what, if this guy goes through without a fight, the sense of hopelessness I've been feeling will really take hold. I don't want to feel hopeless and I certainly don't want to give up, but there's a certain futility in maintaining the status quo when the bad guys keep getting what they want even though THE PEOPLE don't want it. Doesn't matter what the poll numbers are - this country is so far gone our rights and our opinions mean nothing.

6. "Conditioned to accept"
"When all is said and done, Hayden will be confirmed and the American people will be 'conditioned' to accept whatever injustices they're told they must. All in the name of fucking protection. And our Democratic leaders stay mum."

"Conditioning" has already happened with the farce of skipping investigation and proceeding to nomination. Confirmation with be as shitty-smooth as Alito.

Senator Snow (R) came as close as anyone I heard today to saying something relevant to the evil gag that's being played here. :evilfrown:

"I certainly don't want to give up, but there's a certain futility in maintaining the status quo when the bad guys keep getting what they want even though THE PEOPLE don't want it."

3. I guess we've given up
trying to stop these nominations? The Senate is going to do whatever Bush wants anyway.

5. I feel the same way Omega Man!
great post.. and look, hardly anyone discussing it... even on DU there is a popularity of threads that have absolutely nothing to do to returning our government to democracy.

i called into CSPAN and was broadcast live talking about how Hayden makes me nervous and how I think the man has no credibility and how it futher militarizes an already single branch government.... my voice was shaky, and I was fumigating when most my friends after telling them how proud I felt to speak out against this guy, told me I was crazy to challenge the future CIA dude...

I know most DUers are in shock and pissed off at the situation but i expected more discussions on the event....

so thanks for picking up this point....

10. I tried posting this last night
Ex-NSA Head on NSA domestic spying: “This Activity Was Not Authorized”

Wednesday, May 17th, 2006
Ex-NSA Head Bobby Ray Inman on the National Security Agency’s Domestic Surveillance Program: “This Activity Was Not Authorized”

Last week, Admiral Bobby Ray Inman, who headed the NSA from 1977 to 1981, spoke in New York at a forum sponsored by the New York Public Library and the Century Foundation. It was part of the library’s “Live at the NYPL” series. Besides an article at the website wirednews, Inman's statements have received almost no media attention, even though he's believed to be the highest ranking former NSA official to speak out about the program. At the forum, he disputed the Bush administration's claim that Congress authorized the secret spy program when it authorized the President to use force following the September 11th attacks. Inman also said the program clearly contradicts the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act, which Congress passed in 1978, at the time he was head of the National Security Agency.

BOBBY RAY INMAN: My own view, this activity was not authorized by a resolution to use whatever force you need to do. There clearly was a line in the FISA statutes, which says you couldn't do this.

Maybe more people will see it here.

11. "Because I say so" is not the Law of the Land-- supposedly
Thanks Ms. Clio.

"At the forum, he disputed the Bush administration's claim that Congress authorized the secret spy program when it authorized the President to use force following the September 11th attacks."

What's too weird is EVERYBODY KNOWS THAT. It's an open secret that Congress did not authorize anything of the sort or nullify FISA.... a few Congress Dems have said as much................... it's mentioned in the state-initiated grounds for impeachment.

Democratic leaders? Leading us toward the Imperial Presidency? :wtf:

13. We need checks and balances, not hope
Which is the point Sen. Olympia Snow made. Without checks and balances, we need MORE Members stepping up bravely and more We The People calling on them to DO so.

Hayden actually claimed that he is the guy to "speak truth to power" when he runs the agency. What the hell does that mean?

When do Democrats admit to themselves that they have been completely sold out and abandoned by the majority of Democrats in Congress?

15. That is surely their function, to be part of the checks and balances
But the entire system appears to be completely broken. When the Dems "kept their powder dry" and rolled over for Brown, Owen, Roberts, and finally Alito (just as I predicted all along that they would do), that was a real nadir for me.
