Car Enthusiasts Turning to Condos
some people really do have too much money:

David deMartino just bought a 760-square-foot, one-bathroom condo for $212,900 in the booming market of Fort Lauderdale, Fla. He's already ordered custom flooring and cabinets and a flat-screen TV, but he has no plans to move there.

That's because the condo is for his collection of cars and motorcycles.

The idea of buying a parking space is nothing new in crowded urban areas. A 180-square-foot space at the Brimmer Street Garage in Boston's exclusive Beacon Hill neighborhood just sold for $200,000, according to a garage manager.

But a parking space may be exposed to the elements, or next to a rowdy family's hulking sport utility vehicle. That's why some enthusiasts with money to burn are turning to car condos, where their vehicles will be stored in individual, weatherproof, air-conditioned garages with 24-hour security and concierge services.

"It's just peace of mind for my collection," said deMartino, 47, who plans to store a 1930 Ford Model A coupe, a 1961 Corvette convertible, a 1970 Mercedes-Benz 280SL and three special edition motorcycles in his condo.

4. Can you imagine how many people that thing could feed?

Can you imagine how much good he could do if he took that money and donated it for a great cause as opposed to further his own comfort? He should be ashamed... Me, me, me...

5. I'm surprised the Brimmer St. Garage hasn't appreciated more
because when they first started offering car condos back in the late 70s or so, they were $50,000 a pop.

6. dumbass selfish stinking pig.
Hey, Dave: people are literally STARVING in the world, y'know?
Here in the United States, people are eating out of trash cans, sleeping under bridges, and still housed in substandard makeshift camps as a result of Hurricane Katrina.
You might think people will be impressed by how much money you can spend but I am impressed by how shallow you are.
Some people just have no Class at all.

9. eh...i don't even know why this is news
it's been done before--Jerry Seinfeld famously bought a huge building in Manhattan with the sole purpose of housing his Porsche collection...I know other filty rich people out there have been finding unique ways of housing their pristine invesments (uh, i mean 'car collections', which can number in the hundreds)
