here are a few reasons why:

there are few places where I can go to either get my thought processes going on overload, rethinking
topics that I have had my own set views on
learn about topics that I never knew existed
laugh at a brazillian funny thoughts
admire the creativity of people of every stripe and polka-dot under the sun
get a new recipe for dinner
share someone else's sadness
give a word of encouragement
and get my keyboard hand slapped when I get out of control.

I'd like a poster, please.
Or a blanket.
Or a beach towel

Or fabric so I could make a t-shirt, or dress, or curtains...

or wallpaper (the wall variety).

What are you waiting for?

I can't speak for others but I haven't had a paycheck in well over a decade, would have to do the math to figure out exactly when but when I got injured so couldn't work construction anymore I took what I knew and went to work as an activist instead of getting retrained. It's not as much for the family at the moment, but my wife and I both think it's worth it.

Where I can I do, where I can't I don't worry about it. If it's something that ever became an issue I'd have to simply stop posting here, what very little I do give away has gone to LEAP and the ACLU and I can't give either of them up.

I guess it wouldn't be the first time it happened on DU. :shrug:

In my opinion, the DU admins had made a psychological error by setting the target at 1200 rather than the by now traditional even 1000. Up to now, we all inwardly thrilled as that Magical Number drew near (and that Righteous Fist neared the glass jaw of Da Chimp). After that, we all sorta relaxed.

So here we are, having just passed an even 1000, BUT WITH 200 LEFT TO GO! There's a little more than a day to go, and we face the possibility of NOT meeting the goal --- a FIRST to my knowledge. That's not likely to shrivel our souls; the DU community is made of sterner stuff. But out of PRIDE in our community, let's all make that extra effort! Perhaps we can even see 1300 (take THAT, DU admins!). In cases like this, a strong show of support from the membership is more gratifying to the administrators than the loot taken in. This is DU's Gang of 90,000, rather than Pat Robertson's 700 Klub!

but we didn't have enough to donate for my wife turtlelowe. She is going to an online university, Capella, nad our credit cards got sucked dry cause of books/tuition. She starts in early June...
