Bush Helps Out Iran, Big Time!
In the 1980's, when Iran attacked Iraq to start the Iran-Iraq War, Iran had
three objectives:

1. Overthrow Saddam.
2. Destroy Iraq's WMD and WMD program.
3. Establish Shiite majority rule in Iraq.

Iran was never able to accomplish these objectives -- GWBush has done it for them -- all three.

2. Iraq attacked Iran
Edited on Thu Jan-12-06 08:50 PM by firefox
Iraq claimed that Iran tried to kill an ambassador and used that as a justification for war. The UN later said that Iraq was not justified in starting the war. Some say that Iraq acted as our proxy in the war much like Israel will be if they bomb Iran nuclear facilities like they did the Iraqi nuclear facilities built with the help of about a billion dollars in Saudi money.

3. It was Bin Laden who wanted Saddam gone - Bush did Bin Laden's bidding.
They both want perpetual war for perpetual profit.

Iran will benefit off Iraq's misery.

7. Your first sentence lost me ..... because .......
"The war began when Iraq invaded Iran on September 22, 1980 following a long history of border disputes" -snip-

"Iraq's president, Saddam Hussein, was eagerly interested in elevating Iraq to a strong regional power. A successful invasion of Iran would make Iraq the dominating force in the Persian Gulf region and its lucrative oil trade." -snip-

"The UN Secretary General report dated 9 December 1991 (S/23273) explicitly states "Iraq's aggression against Iran" in starting the war and breaching International security and peace." -snip-

The objectives of Iraq's invasion of Iran were summed as follow:

1. Acquisition of the Arvand/Shatt al-Arab waterway as part of Iraqi territory (Iraq's only port connection to The Persian Gulf).
2. Acquisition of the three islands of Abu Musa and the Greater and Lesser Tunbs, on the unilateral behalf of the UAE.
3. Annexing Khuzestan (or "Arabistan") as part of Iraqi territory.

You can learn a little more of the conflict here .... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iran-Iraq_War

Conclusion: Iraq invaded Iran, and not the other way around. Though that area as we all know has been unstable for century's. Do you have any other resources on your historical references to this areas history besides the link you provided above? It basically tells me nothing. Peace. :)
