It seems safe to say that many people here in the US will blindly accept the fact that Hugo Chavez of Venezuela is a trouble making socialist who does not kowtow to the US government.
I don't know much about him, just what I read in the papers, or pick up through links here at DU. I do know that he appears to be trying to make life better for all citizens of his country, not just the wealthy. We know he upsets the status quo because of the attempted coup on his government that took place about 2 years ago. He has also been described in less than flattering terms by Rumsfeld and others of the Bush regime.
My point? (Finally, you say! :) )
Yesterday I had occasion to be at the local military support area or annex as they call it here. You know it'w where active and retired military can go to the grocery store (Annex/Exchange etc), and all sorts of other services. I was there in connection with my job. As we pulled in to park I noticed the gas station there. Selling gas at about 8 cents less than what you or I might pay for it here in Washington state.
The supplier of the gas? None other than Hugo Chavez and Citgo........ Seems like a disconnect to me.
