When is James Baker III gonna save the day?
I heard that poppy is furious that * has made a laughingstock out of the Walker family name. I was under the impression that Baker was gonna come on board to bail * out. I thought that Baker was ready to go to Iraq and save the day. Baker hasn't bolted on the BFEE, has he?

1. junta makes messes faster than Baker can clean up
You did know that the lawyer Cheney shot in the face was Baker's brother-in-law, didn't you? THAT got cleaned up in a hurry.

7. It is a great story
And you can google 'til your fingers fall off and ransack every public library in Texas, but you will not find a single link.

I was the one who 'outed' Mercedes Whittington on DU.

22. Found this one in the UK, lol.
17th February 2006
As if more proof were needed that America is run by a tightly-knit group of wealthy Republicans, it turns out that Harry Whittington - the man Vice President Dick Cheney shot in the face last weekend - is married to one Mercedes Baker. Mercedes Baker Whittington is the sister of James Baker III, Treasury Secretary under Ronald Reagan and Secretary of State during the elder George Bush's presidency. James Baker III is also a senior partner at Baker Botts, the prominent Houston law firm that represents, among others, the Bush family and Michael Scanlon, Jack Abramoff's former business partner.

Katharine Armstrong, the woman who owns the ranch where Dick Cheney shot Harry Whittington in the face, is not just some random Texas rancher hosting so-called "hunts" where rich people ride around in cars shooting at hand-reared game birds. She's also a lobbyist for...Baker Botts.

It's eerily like the Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon game, except that everything always goes back to the Bushes. This is the United States of America in the early 21st century: a plutocracy masquerading as a representative democracy.

3. I don't think there's any day to save.
I truly believe that it's over. Baker's task is to craft a "peace with honor" exit.

13. How old is he anyway?
He can't have too many years left in him to keep cleaning up after the Bush family. That's a lot of hard work.

8. The Vomiter doesn't tell Baker what to do.
Actually, it's the other way around.

I believe that jimmie sees it for what it is (trainwreck) and is busy making the most of it on the backside (Carlyle, Baker,Botts).

11. To late. Reminds me of...
In the shuffling madness
Of the locomotive breath
Runs the all time loser
Headlong to his death
He feels the pistons scraping
Steam breaking on his brow
Old Charlie stold the handle and
The train won't stop going
No way to slow down

(from Locomotive Breath by Jethro Tull)

14. Newsweek had it several weeks ago
It might even have been as long as two months ago, that Baker had been sent in to help get the moron out of his current jam(s).

It was right before the big (snort) shake-up's started happening.

Like firing McLellan is gonna fix anything. I don't think Baker is there to help bail junior outta anything anymore.

Frankly, I would think it more likely that Baker is back in the WH to make sure the moron doesn't fuck up any further business deals for Baker, Carlyle, poppy and the other evil empire members, as well as to finalize details to cement the rest of their greedy schemes.

Put the focus on them, and make idiot son look like he was misled by greedy experts.

20. Bush turns to promoter of first Gulf war for 'new ideas' on this one
Ex-Sec Of State Baker To Advise Bush On Iraq War -NYT

NEW YORK -(Dow Jones)- Former Secretary of State James A. Baker III will advise President George W. Bush on Iraq, heading up a Congressionally mandated, bipartisan effort to generate new ideas on war there, the New York Times reported Monday.

Baker, a longtime confidant of the first President Bush with a close but complicated relationship with the current president, plans to travel to Baghdad and the region to meet with heads of state on a fact-finding mission that officials say was encouraged by both father and son and Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, the Times reported.

The newspaper said the White House quietly designated Baker to the advisory role last month, the report said.

Baker declined to be interviewed for the story, but at a news conference this month, he said it was not his intention to engage in "hand-wringing about the past" but to focus on the path ahead "on a bipartisan basis in the hope that we can come up with some advice and insights that might be useful to the policy makers in Washington," the Times said.

of this. This was the guy that took part in Florida fucking it up for us. On the other hand he played a big role in getting the Palestinians and the Israeli's to the table and talking by getting Hanan Ashrawi to act as a surrogate for the PLO. I don't know if he will get involved in foreign policy. This administration is too fucked up and beyond fixing.
