1184 Donations in one week... Thank you, Democratic Underground!

Thank you very much to everyone who donated in this fund drive -- and to our monthly subscribers. We are extremely grateful for your generosity. Your contributions are vital to keeping this site open for everyone.

We didn't quite make our goal, but we came very close. For a while this evening, I thought there was a chance that we might just pull it off. We didn't get all the way to 1200, but we still did extremely well. The other admins and I are very pleased with the results.

By the way: There are still a number of people who have credits to purchase stickies. We're going to leave the stickies on the top of the discussion forums for a day or two just in case you still want to use those credits and make your stickies.

I've tried others, but I always come back to DU. No one does it better, in my opinion, than Democratic Underground.

I just didn't make it in under the wire - there were some site glitches going on for me.

... since I joined in January, 2005 and started reading in October 2004. This is not to denigrate previous donation drives -- the recent Valentine hearts drive in particular seemed very popular (although a tad creepy, IMO) -- but They weren't an incentive for me. While one might hope that the priviledge of posting on DU for free would be an incentive to donate, it wasn't for me. I used to get all I needed from DU for free. Previous GrovelBot appearances seemed a bit crass to me, TBH. I'm a bastard, really.

Apart from underwriting your Programmer Chow bill, supporting your valid cause and subsidizing your real costs, I now realise that donating to DU gives me the ability to search DU (a great benefit). It seems strangely shallow, but having the opportunity to post something as insignifiant as a 90x90 pixel image meant a lot to me. Since mine was one of the earlier ones, it is now relegated to previous pages, but I'm still proud of it. Here it is again:

I'm offering this feedback in the unlikely event that it helps you to formulate future donation campaigns. I'm not suggesting that you should change your donation drives to attract more people like me... even if that were possible or desireable. Good grief no. Turning over those rocks might strain your back. Please do with this information what you will.

I will give as long as I am able to do so.

this place so user friendly, educational and just down right entertaining. Where the truth is not always spoken first but always comes out in the end.

Although I mostly read and infrequently post, I love…love…love it here.

The stickies were a great idea and so much fun to read. Getting a peek into the passionate heart’s of DU’ers was a lovely experience.

I wish I had a big poster of the stickie pages.

And I know the check won't make it to D.C. before mid-week. :D

We appreciate the thought, but we prefer if people would not deliberately split donations just to indrease the total.

Seeing as how I don't have a ton of extra money to give away, I have to pick and choose my donations wisely. But I'm happy to give to DU. I get so much out of DU that it would seem a crime not to give something back. Thanks for giving me a place to feel at home.

..at the top of ,say, the Lobby, or somewhere. And maybe keep a few links to the "Big Board" sprinkled around the site?

Many posters will send it in the mail, and without Sunday delivery you ought to set a later deadline for snailmail.
