Why did Frist pick 666 to bring up Anti-Gay amendment?
The Anti-Gay marriage amendment is scheduled to be brought up in the Senate on the 5th of June, but from what I’ve read, the actual vote is supposed to be on the 6th which will be 6/6/06 (in Christian superstition, 666 is the sign of the devil). I dont think picking that date is coincidence. Wonder why they chose that date? Just “red meat” for the Christians? or is it just coincidence?

2. Report last year that 666 was a tranlation error from the original Greek.

Think the correct translation was said to be 616 or 661, I don't recall which. Made me laugh, thinking of all the people rushing around trying to avoid anything dealing with 666.

4. Yeah I saw this show on The Discovery Channel (I think)
That 666 was code for Roman emporor Nero, and It has nothing to do with the Devil. But 666 is still synonymous with the Devil and Evil for most people.

13. All those firm believers avoiding a # they feel is dangerous
cuz they read it in a particular book is the lesson. The translation was wrong, so if their book is accurate, they have been avoiding the Devil yet letting him slip by while they were looking at the wrong thing.

I find it a good illustration of the problems with taking something literally after it has been edited for language and content by political groups with their own agenda ;)

16. I knew it!
As a Buckeye fan, I knew 616 had to be a Meechigan area code, appropriate b'place for the antichrist! Of course 661 is a N. Los Angeles code, for those who are convinced that LA, with its commie pinko liberal hollywood types, should have that dubious honor. :smoke:

5. They should totally take the day off.
They work so hard there, and rarely get any time to take vacation. And how about giving them a raise?

National Day of Slayer!

Official Statement on Participation

Listen to Slayer at full blast in your car.
Listen to Slayer at full blast in your home.
Listen to Slayer at full blast at your place of employment.
Listen to Slayer at full blast in any public place you prefer.

The objective of this day is for everyone within earshot to understand that it is the National Day of Slayer. National holidays in America aren't just about celebrating; they're about forcing it upon non-participants.

BTW, I think 616 was the "true number" and the 666 arose due to a mistranslation from the Vulgate (the version translated in Greek by the Jews at Alexandria during the Ptolemy Egyptian Dynasty). It was the further complicated by NEw Testament writers living in Early Rome (post Joshua) who attributed all the current evils (Pogroms on their little Jewish Reformer Sect) with the Emperor's in Rome.

Edit to include last paragraph.

12. That's fantastic.
They are so much more in touch with reality than these goons who call themselves republicans. I always thought that things would change after Slayer, Motorhead, and all of the rest. At least they're still around. I even saw Fear on tv a few weeks ago. Lee Ving looks like an old businessman.

19. Bringing up the Anti-Gay constitutional amendment is,
at it’s core, a strategy by top Republicans to retain control of our government. The fact that they chose the date 666 has some meaning, because the date is very important to the same segment of people that the Anti-Gay amendment appeals to.

It does seem rather silly to be discussing superstition, but never the less, they chose that date for political purposes that worked out pretty well for them in 04.

Playing political games with peoples lives is worth discussing to me.
