Is this the week ...?
....that much of the corruption and those involved will be exposed? The first hint is how the FBI chose to go after William Jefferson (D) at this time? They have supposedly known and had the evidence since last August? But the timing is significant. Who else will be indicted or charged this week? Does the Enron trial hold any surprises? Is this the week that Fitzgerald lays out some charges? Will anymore Congressmen be connected to the Cunningham poker-hooker bribery scandal?

My hunch is that this could be a very interesting week. Rep. Jefferson is set up front in an attempt to minimize and to take attention from those that are to follow. Most of those will be Republicans. It does appear that the FBI is following orders rather closely and they appear to be coming from the White House or the VP's office. They had 95 pages of affidavits against William Jefferson. Surely they have some more pages somewhere??

8. Yes, I've noticed that too!
I've often said "Why couldn't this have happened when The Daily Show is on? They would have had a field day with this!!" I'm glad I'm not the only one who has noticed this! Hmmmmm.... do they plan their "big shit" to emerge during Daily Show reruns to take some of the edge off??? If something big happens this week, we'll know for sure (LOL)!! Then again, something rotten is always happening with this administration, so you're bound to miss something if you take a week off!

2. Certainly would be nice.
We'll have to see, but some of the dominoes do seem to be tettering.

4. Tin foil on timing: GOP needed a diversion from the deluge
of GOP Congressmen and appointees recently exposed. Needed just one DEM to be exposed so they could campaign on "we all do it, DEMS too" instead of answer as to why THEY did it.

5. Have the Republicans spoken out about his arrest?
I've heard the TV pundits yap about it, but the politicians on the right seem to be staying quiet on the matter. Perhaps something big's coming up for them and they don't want to toot the "morals in office" horn too loud at the moment...It never seemed to have stopped them before...

7. Here's a lttle more fodder... from Josh

<snip>
It took a while, but Rep. Katherine Harris (R-FL) finally fessed up to dining with former MZM Inc. owner and Duke Cunningham briber Mitchell Wade. Recall the $2800 meal at Citronelle? The "only-appetizers-and-a-drink" claim? The failure to reimburse or report the meal, which was w-a-a-a-y over the House gift limit?

It turns out Harris enjoyed an earlier dinner with Mitchell -- on his dime -- that she also failed to report or reimburse. Harris dispatched her spokesman to defend her activities, but apparently failed to arm him with a viable set of facts. She made a contribution to a charity for the amount of her meal, he insisted, "but he could provide no details," reports the St. Petersburg Times, which broke the story. "He said he did not know how much that meal cost, how much Harris donated to charity or what the charity was."

Trial Nears for Ex-Official Tied to Lobbyist
A former White House budget official is scheduled to go on trial this week, the first defendant to face a jury in the corruption scandal centered on the lobbyist Jack Abramoff. The former official, David H. Safavian, is charged with lying about his contacts with Mr. Abramoff and about the circumstances of their 2002 golfing trip to Scotland by private jet. (NY Times, Bloomberg)

As lobbyist issue arose, Ney, staff ceased privately paid trips
After accepting 131 trips worth $234,775 in 4 1/2 years, Rep. Bob Ney and his staff haven't let a private outside group pay for their travel since June 14, 2005, according to an Associated Press review of travel disclosure forms Ney's office filed with the House clerk. (AP)
