Bush* LIED ; He RAISED taxes on Teenagers. Read my lips, he RAISED TAXES.

Even though he did it to a segment of the population that cannot vote him out of office. Bush* lied just like his father before him. He promised NEVER to sign legislation that would raise taxes. This bill RAISED THE TAXES of working teenagers. Read on:

~snip~ Under the new law, teenagers age 14 to 17 with investment income will now be taxed at the same rate as their parents, not at their own rates. Long-term capital gains and dividends that had been taxed at 5 percent will now be taxed at 15 percent. Interest that had been taxed at 10 percent will now be taxed at as much as 35 percent.

The increases, which are retroactive to the first day of the year, are expected to generate nearly $2.2 billion over 10 years, according to the Congressional Joint Committee on Taxation, which issues the official estimates.
~snip~

6. I might have phrased it wrong
But that little quote about Bush lying in my post. It's based on something I once said along those lines during an open mic session. With each day, I find it to be truer.

7. Yes, I see what you mean.
I have been watching his "bushisms" with amazement also, seeing how much he speaks the truth but it is discounted as "he couldn't really have meant that".

5. Kicked and recommended
And I doubt very much any neo-cons will complain. Until they are 18, they ain't voters; therefore, they are less than scum beneath the neo-cons' imported designer shoes. (That they will remain scum beneath the neo-cons' imported designer shoes unless they have trust funds totalling $5 million or more is beside the fact.)

8. Not working teenagers. This is investment income, not earned.
This is a tax on the capitalistic investor class teenager!

9. Good for Congress and Bush
I have no idea why they did this, but I'm glad to see the uber wealthy can't use the kids as investment income shelters anymore.

10. He voted to close a loophole for the wealthy. I thought we liked that...
Edited on Mon May-22-06 05:11 PM by MercutioATC
He "raised" taxes on investment income for 14-17 year-olds. It now matches the rate of their parents.

How many 14-17 year-olds do YOU know that have significant investment income where those "investments" weren't the result of parents shifting their income to their children to avoid taxes?

I'm all for outrage, but this is a silly issue for us to be upset about.

11. I agree...
what would be the opposite stance to what Bush did here? Lowering taxes on the rich?
