Gore volunteers to take his movie to the White House!
http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2006/05/23/politics/main1645020.shtml

(AP) Is President Bush likely to see Al Gore's documentary about global warming?

"Doubt it," Mr. Bush said coolly Monday.

But Mr. Bush should watch it, Gore shot back. In fact, the former Democratic vice president offered to come to the White House any time, any day to show Mr. Bush either his documentary or a slide show on global warming that he's shown more than 1,000 times around the world.

"The entire global scientific community has a consensus on the question that human beings are responsible for global warming and he has today again expressed personal doubt that that is true," Gore said in an Associated Press interview from France where he attended the Cannes Film Festival.

1. Make Them Reject It
That way we can point at the GOP and continue to call them failures who care more about power and money, than anything else.

2. If Bush was smart, he'd take this opportunity. But we all know he isn't
smart.

...Here's another Democrat who's NOT keeping his "powder dry."

Al sure is feisty these days.

21. He looks great these days. I think he lost a bunch of the weight he
gained over the past several years. Looks like he's getting down to "lean, fightin' weight", eh? Ready for a battle in the not-too-distant future, Al?

5. LOL
* has a distinct aversion to science, reality, and various other sorts of "truthiness." It interfers with his "faith based" delusions.

But if that would ever fantastically occur I'd hope Gore would take a copy of "Baghdad ER" as well.

6. "I'm a grandfather, he's a father and this shouldn't be a political issue"
 CRUSH him, Al.

"Why should we set aside the global scientific consensus," Gore said, his voice rising with emotion. "Is it because Exxon Mobil wants us to set it aside? Why should we set aside the conclusion of scientists in the United States, including the National Academy of Sciences, and around the world including the 11 most important national academies of science on the globe and substitute for their view the view of Exxon Mobil. Why?"

"I'm a grandfather and he's a father and this should not be a political issue," Gore said. "And he should ask the National Academy of Sciences ... whether or not human beings are contributing to global warming."

The White House said....."....whaaaaaaa?

7. Project the film on the outside of the building
Using one of those long-range projectors, they could project
the film on to the congress, just for effect, in case
the buggers are not listening.

13. BTW, Al has already taken his lecture to Grover Norquist and his group:
And took questions, too!

http://hotlineblog.nationaljournal.com/archives/2006/01/gore_at_grovers.html

Indeed, the former Vice President did turn up at Grover's Wednesday Group meeting, apparently at his own request, to give an abbreviated version of his global warming presentation. As Grover's meetings are off-the-record, I won't relay any of Gore specific remarks (beyond repeating what I think he'd want Cornerites to hear--that global warming and the potential harm it may do to the planet should be recognized as a moral challenge by everyone, especially conservatives). But I think I can stay within the rules to make a few general observations about the experience.

First, Gore was funny, relaxed, and self-effacing, and he was received by the Group with the utmost politeness and courtesy, as it should be. John Miller is right to praise the guy for seeking to meet with a group of people not one of whom likely voted for him. His Powerpoint presentation on global warming was superbly done--the best I have ever seen either on this or any topic. (He has some dazzling graphics, and uses Powerpoint as it ought to be used.)

Gore took on all comers for about 25 minutes after the speech, and I thought most of his responses were not strong. He graciously acknowledged the merits of good points and some challenges put to him (including two from me, if I can boast a bit). But most of his answers, I thought, sounded like canned bits of the rest of his speech that he left out, and he didn't, with few exceptions, join the fundamental premises at the heart of the questions. He also is not up to date on a few aspects of the climate change debate, but this is entirely forgiveable in my mind because it is almost impossible to keep up with this fast-moving scene.

Above all, Gore the practical politician may have come to realize something the environmental movement is resolutely clueless about: there can be no serious progress on any environmental issues without the participation of conservatives, for the obvious reason that the conservative movement is a potent force that is not going away any time soon. And with most other foreign conservative parties having joined the green/global warming bandwagon to some extent, this leaves the American conservative movement as the most significant remaining holdout. Most environmentalists want to demonize conservatives; Gore says he wants to talk to us. Good for him.

28. he would cry because I would sneak in and nudge him in the ribs ...
.... very forcefully, whenever a point came up in the movie which he had scoffed at or derided, and done nothing to prevent.

Judging by what I've heard, there are a LOT of those moments, so his ribs would be pretty sore by the end.

27. Al should fill his pockets with candy, before going to the WH
And whenever he says things like "global warming", or "carbon dioxide abatement", give Georgie a peppermint or something. Positive reinforcement, you know. I am convinced that Cheney and Co. have conditioned Georgie by hitting him or giving him an electric shock whenever anybody talks about science or the environment, so he gets uneasy and doesn't want to listen. This is one way to undo that conditioning -- using food rewards. We already know that it seems to work on Georgie.

"The Joint Chiefs' staff had placed a peppermint at each place. Bush unwrapped his and popped it into his mouth. Later he eyed Cohen's mint and flashed a pantomime query, Do you want that? Cohen signaled no, so Bush reached over and took it. Near the end of the hour-and-a-quarter briefing, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs, Army Gen. Henry H. Shelton, noticed Bush eyeing his mint, so he passed it over."
