Big Ed Schultz sings the praises of Dixie Chicks' courage today!
Edited on Tue May-23-06 03:07 PM by checks-n-balances
He obviously has a lot of admiration for them, and said part of the reason GWB's numbers are in the toilet these days is courageous people who have made sacrifices to their careers by speaking out against this administration. There's no article about this (yet!) but I hope some others will pick up on this theme. The Powers That Be have been going after artists & musicians by trying to silence them (as well as others who have a voice in the media), and Ed's just giving some positive support & reinforcement to people out there - like the Chicks - who won't back down.

Anyone else listening to his show today?

Now if more Democratic officials would follow their lead, just maybe...

Anyway, way to go today, Big Eddie!

1. He also brought up a good point about other artists
such as Springsteen, Green Day, and Neil Young who have been vociferous anti-war people but haven't suffered the slings and arrows the Dixie Chicks have. I believe it is because overall, the Rock and Roll establishment is well known for being "liberal", whereas the Country establishment is just supposed to be about drinkin' fightin' and lovin'(I have done all three) . I am not a big fan of today's Country Music, including the Chicks, but I may buy their new cd just to support their (and our) right to free speech.

3. Bingo! Country is very conservative. We can't have...
women of all people expressing their own opinions, now can we? <sarcasm off>

4. Some administration apologists in the media have said...
That their new album and public stance is probably just a marketing tool to get more album sales.
Yeah right! They have lost tons of money and supporters by taking their stand. Of course to the opposition it could never be that people oppose them because of their ideals and convictions, it has to be some other sinister motive, usually money. What bastards! I don't even like their type of music, but I hold them in high regards for their courage in the face of the mountains of anger and hate that has been spewed at them.
