Fundie mom says Pat Robertson is an "idiot"
True. Now this is a little convoluted, because her defense is that the second coming is at hand, even though I really don't even believe in the first coming ... but this little rift in the fundie community has escaped me. Pat opened his mouth again and said Sharon's stroke was because he withdrew people from Gaza? And Pat is going to have to eat his words because the christian community is praying for Sharon's recovery and then that will prove that Pat Robertson is an IDIOT!

Got that?

I'm just delighted that they are at each other throats so to speak. ahem

They just now noticed that Pat Robertson is an idiot? Maybe hope is near that they will display some observation skills and . hello. George Bush is too. I think they actually know that. Somewhere, deep in their dark souls. heh

1. The trouble with Robertson
He believes what he is saying. Being an "end timer."
any evidence of peace in the middle east means evil forces
are at play. How truly perverted is this.

2. that's what started the conversation
I was told first hand, that the end is near. I would say it might look that way, but no dice. We go on. We deal in reality.

It makes no sense at all. Even the end timers are saying he is an idiot. I hope some DUer can give me some insight into this.

3. every year that goes by in this new millennium is an extraordinary
problem for extreme christians -- magic christians.

they have created an extraordinary crisis for themselves -- because whether they are an end timer, a rapturist or other --the lack of a second coming puts their belief in doubt.

they NEED violence as a distraction that there has been no rapture or second coming -- but if they have to -- they''l saddle the four horses and get on them themselves to keep everyone in suspense.

16. There is even
a Bible verse that tells Christian's to not worry about the end of the time. It's in 1 Thessalonians 5 verses one and two: 1Now, brothers, about times and dates we do not need to write to you, 2for you know very well that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night.

All this end of the world nonsense is pure crap and if you spout it out you could have less credibility.

4. My fundie mother in-law quit the 700 Club
After about a year watching Joel Osteen. She doesn't understand why Robertson has to be so negative all the time, and Osteen is always positive and hopeful for the future.

5. I used to be a fundie myself
Have read a bunch of books, looked into the postulated scenario. Hey, they scared me half to death in the early 70's because the last year that was supposed to happen was 1988, max. One thing I read was by an old time preacher guy who said that doing anyting to preserve life on this planet was akin to "polishing the hand rails on the Titanic". Now that is doom, buster.

I just think they are so out of touch with possibilities, and how much precious time we have ...
Instead of actually doing something, or even giving some thought to matters at hand, they just go, oh Jesus, he'll take care of it, and here we will sit waiting until he does. It is mind boggling.

My mom actually asked me "are you ready"! Well about as ready as I will ever be.
Are any of us ever actually "ready"? Hey, life = The biggest parent of all.

7. life = The biggest parent of all
you know, one of my deepest and most freeing insights was that my biological parents may have given me a physical body and childhood home... but it's the Universe that provides my real home. I never leave the Universe;s loving embrace.

12. I just wouldn't be able to help myself
If anyone asked me if I was "ready," I'd have to say, "Oh, yeah! I cannot WAIT until people are raptured and I get all their stuff!"

I'm just bad. :spank: And I'm fine with that.

13. I think so too
I don't care about their stuff, but wouldn't mind if they catch the next starship enterprise to the heavens. But oh wait. Then the heavens would have to deal with these crazies. Aw shit.

There is actually a website devoted to some idea that the "rapture" will be done via aliens and the spaceships they bring to earth.. run for one! Just remember Walmart and Islam holidays. IOW, you may get trampled.

18. Right
I've always been taught that we are God's eyes, feet, hands ears etc. God isn't like your fairy godparent like in Cinderella or something. So many Christian's have this view as God like that. He can just snap his fingers (or whatever) and make something happen.

21. That isn't a bad teaching
and was just brought home to me last year when I actually met someone who displayed those qualities. He did an excellent job of being a loving human being. I guess my life has a shortage of those types. So I must conclude that 'we' don't always do a great job of being eyes, feet, hands and ears. Two ears, one mouth, as they say.

6. And that's why I say don't slam Joel Osteen. Not my cup of tea, but he's
harmless... and if fact, leaves people feeling good in a postive way.

8. And Joel Osteen is NOT political.
He's said in interviews that he has his own opinions, but he does not express them from the pulpit. (Actually he doesn't use a pulpit--it's a high tech stage.)

He's not my style, either. I've caught him on TV; yes, I change the channel pretty quickly, but without the lingering nausea left by other TV preachers. He does accentuate the positive. And he's made so much money from his books that he's chosen to receive NO salary from the church. Finally, the Lakewood congregation is quite diverse--reflecting Houston's population.

11. The 'congregation' in the chapter of my spiritual group is very diverse
as well. Frankly, I find that a welcoming, healthy sign.

20. Good
When I go to church I go there for spiritual uplifting and for something I can apply to my daily life. That's why I love the preachers at my church. My preacher has only mentioned politics once and it was barely anything. Once about why we have to be left vs right and not do better for God and than a little thing about the fourth of July thanking members in our church who have served and saying how we're lucky compared to other countries to have the first amendment with religion and nobody has to be afraid etc. I wish more preachers were that way. I don't mind having groups like all these other conservative religious groups, but not from the pulpit telling people they have to vote this way or that way or be kicked out and I'm glad my church doesn't stand on positions with things because I wouldn't want my church speaking on my behalf because there could be something I disagree with them about. It's my understanding that the first amendment protects the church from the government and minorties from the church.

17. I don't get it either
 Most preachers I've come across in my years are always very uplifting and positive about the future. They've never preached about hate or anything like that like Robertson. I think it's great to have someone like Osteen for people to listen to. He's written a lot of self-help positive books I believe.

15. Oh I know
on this Christian board I frequent from time to time people there who said Robertson was making Christian's look bad across the country with his insane comments and think that he's out of line. There are a lot of us who don't buy his B.S.
