Make a RWinger think twice.
My husband was having a discussion with one of his RWing friends yesterday about NSA spying. The friend was defending it saying it wouldn't effect him, only guilty people would be caught up in it. My husband told him our home phone was probably caught up in a sweep. My daughter was moving to London last September. Her roommate-to-be called us the day of the London Bombings to let us know everything was okay. I would think the NSA was sweeping all the calls from London to the US after the London attacks. Another red flag, we were booked on flights the next week for a vacation to New York City. The friend said you have nothing to worry about if you are not quilty of anything. My husband gets frustrated with his friends being so brain washed. So, to get his attention he said "jihad, jihad". My husband said the phone went silent for a minute, they were on cell phones. His friend went ballistic, "Why did you do that?" My husband replied "You have nothing to worry about if you aren't guilty of anything."

1. I just ask them how they'd feel if Bill Clinton was in charge of selected
who gets wire-tapped and who doesn't.

Shuts em up in a heartbeat.

8. I can't wait until Hillary gets to do some wiretapping
Same sort of thing.

Of course they probably have a whole campaign built around that fear.

2. This assumes, of course, that a right winger can actually think *once.*

3. A very interesting sense of humor??
My husband gets frustrated with his friends being so brain washed. So, to get his attention he said "jihad, jihad". My husband said the phone went silent for a minute, they were on cell phones. His friend went ballistic, "Why did you do that?" My husband replied "You have nothing to worry about if you aren't guilty of anything."

Why would you do that to a "friend"?

5. To prove a point
Just saying the word "jihad" should not cause the government to investigate you. Just like protesting the war shouldn't cause you to be investigated by the FBI. I think the point was well taken.

10. Ummm, if there was "nothing to worry about" why would the friend have
any adverse reaction?

Come to think of it, why would YOU consider it a bad thing to simply utter the phrase "jihad jihad" into the phone?

11. Let me describe this guy
This guy is politically obnoxious. We've known him for over twenty years but we try not to talk politics with him. But he isn't in our house for ten minutes before he makes a "Hilary joke". He blames everything on George Soros & Bill Clinton. Although he admits he was better off financially during the Clinton years. He's pro-life unless it involves his step-daughter in college. He will always be considered a friend of ours but his political views are straight from Fox & Hannity.

The point to the Jihad comment was to show him how easy it is to be drawn up in the NSA surveilance. They could have been talking about Chuck Norris movie. Just the word Jihad is suppose to trigger the NSA filter search on random cell phone calls.

4. Funny!
I tell them that if Bush thinks he's above the law, he can also decide what is wrong and what isn't-and what are you gonna do when he decides he doesn't want citizens to own guns?

7. Make them "take the pledge"
Have them fill out, sign, and notarize the following:

I, <state your name>, do give up all my Constitutional rights* necessary in support of the Federal Government's 'War on Terror'. I freely give up these rights indefinitely no matter if a Republican or a Democrat is the President. I will not criticize the President no matter their party as long they are fighting the 'War on Terror'.

<sign>
Full Name

* Rights to be determined by the President with no oversight by the Congress or the Judiciary
