I'm sorry there aren't better TOONs this week. You're going to have to take what you get - and like it! Btw, what's with all the traffic this evening? Is memorial day weekend starting early?

Yesterday's TOONs

10. Just a word about this one - not the toon but the moment of silence thing

National moment of silence on Memorial Day to remember the Veterans????

Isn't that what the whole day is for? to remember the veterans and those who have fallen for our country????
And this comes along, to me it is reducing Memorial Day to a moment. It is like saying have fun all weekend but at 3:00 stop for a moment. Then resume the party.
When I was growing up, you went to a Memorial Day service on Memorial Day, the rest of the day was usually spent with family but not in a party sense. Maybe it was because my father has lost a brother in WWII but I guess, something soaked in, because I still fee that is what Memorial Day is about.
There have been very few Memorial Days were we have not gone to some service honoring the veterans, and I never served in the military.

Sorry for the rant in a toon thread.

12. Yeah, it seems more known for barbeques
But I remember when I was growing up, we always went to the Memorial Day service. ANd similar to you, my Dad had been in WWII, and then he was in the Legion so always carried a flag in the Memorial Day service. And I was a Girl Scout, so we always did stuff, like put poppies on crosses.

I never thought about what other people did on Memorial Day, that it might not mean the same thing
