Poll question: Fun Hypothetical Situation
I'm re-posting this, with permission of the origianl author, DU'er Jed Dilligan, because I wanted to attach an actual poll to it, and see the results...

Let's say that sometime in the next couple of years (I'm assuming no impeachment only for the purposes of this thread) you do something really, really stunning that everyone in the world has to admire--save fifty babies from a burning maternity ward, quadruple the effectiveness of a cancer treatment, or something along those lines. Or maybe you finally get recognized for the brilliant artist or great humanitarian or whatever that you've been all these years. You are a hero in the public's eye. And "President" Bush wants to honor you with a medal.

What would you do? Would you refuse the medal, accept it gracefully because this is still your country and your president, or accept it as a means of bringing your critique of Bush to the public forum?

(Not that I expect to win anything myself, but since so many real heroes do oppose Bush I imagine this situation will arise for some people.)

1. I Said Accept And Critique
Because that's what I'd like to do, but I'd probably wuss out at the last moment and be gracious to him.

Maybe I'd just keep my critique subtle or not do it to his face, but wait to hit the news shows after.

Or maybe make a joke like, "this is the first good decision George Bush has made in eight years."

5. I did, too. Screw the damn medal.
But that scenario would likely have the greatest impact.

2. Me, I'd Refuse
I would say I didn't want my medal touched by King Sadim, because he's a reverse Midas, and everything he touches turns into shit.

4. Accept the medal from the US President
And openly lament that, at the time, he happened to be Bush.

Make it crystal clear I am accepting the medal from the office, not the man.

7. Look at who else he's given medals to. NO WAY I'd want to be
part of that group!

9. Refuse The Medal With Comment
It would be nice to say it to his face but who says we ever get that chance, they control the event. I'd be afraid of ending up a photo op for him so would grab the chance while I had it.

10. That Is EXACTLY Why I Said The Same Thing
Why I'd refuse it, with comment. I would not allow myself to become another photo-op for an asshole I can't stand. And I'd say it, too, just like that.
