Possible "Wake up the media" campaign
I was reading the posts this morning about the usual egregious crap the mainstream media tries to foist on us as news, and the Bill O'Reilly screed gave me an idea. If we could turn it into a concerted, organized effort, it has the potential to get somebody's attention. So here's the plan:

Every time someone presents tripe as news, fire off a simple and direct email to the perpetrator.

Subject line: Title identifying "news" story in question

Text of email: "Stories" like this are why I prefer to get my news from The Daily Show.

Sign it with:

  1. Your full name
  2. Your age demographic
  3. Your salary range demographic

CC to:

  1. CEO, CFO, Programming Director, or other individual responsible for revenue and/or decision-making
  2. Nielsen Ratings System
  3. Any companies that advertised during that hour/half hour time period
  4. The Daily Show

Perhaps a web site could be maintained on number of contacts made. It could be coordinated through Media Matters, FAIR, or some other such watchdog site.

2. I like it...
Just take it a step further. Whenever the so-called main stream media presents a one-sided view of a story or if the anchor or reporter editorializes or deliberately misinforms....send an e-mail. We have to start consistently letting them know that we don't want their personal opinion ...or that of their bosses.

3. The problem with that is...
...most of us are doing this already. I fire off emails regularly at these boneheads and have yet to see any results.

If we had a concerted effort, however, that pointed out the "why" and how it can, does, or will affect their business financially, I think we'll have a bigger impact. Plus, since it's short, sweet, and to the point, they will have a tough time making up the usual crap about how "Internet loonies" are sending them personal attacks laced with profanity.

It's all about money for these guys, so we have to point out, in language that a 2-year-old could understand, how their poor "news" coverage is going to hit them in the pocketbook.

4. It sounds like a good idea to me
But not for me because I just got rid of my satellite TV and I have only one broadcast channel (and wouldn't you know it is a FOX station) so my TV gets little use right now
But when I did have it i sent Emails regularly to those bone heads and they just ignored it until I got tired of typing.
But good luck and I do miss the Daily show a lot but not enough to go back to satellite TV.
