Ned Lamont at Planned Parenthood dinner last night. Also Cecile Richards
new head of Planned Parenthood Federation of America, who gave a rousing speech, saying "I'll be damned if I'll let them
Ned knows the PPC crowd well, being a longtime supporter, along with his wife Annie, of PPC's work in Connecticut. He worked the room in the long cocktail hour before the dinner, then had to leave to go to the local NAACP dinner). I shook his hand and told him that I had collected signatures for his petition to get on the ballot. He was so genuinely grateful and gracious it took me aback. I told him it was truly my pleasure (as it was!).

New Haven mayor John DeStefano, running for governor against Mother Rell, also gave strong prochoice remarks as did state AG Dick Blumenthal, another longtime PPC supporter who also lives in Greenwich as does Ned. They both spoke about CT being so key in the history of reproductive freedom in our country. Just a few blocks away from the dinner's New Haven site was the building where Griswold v. Connecticut had its genesis.

Great prochoice, progressive movement evening. We've got some tough customers against us, but then, when was it ever easy to be a progressive?

1. I heard that Susan Yolen was a pro-Lamont delegate to the convention
Susan is head of PPC.

Hope she will continue helping Ned Lamont.

2. I saw her last night
I didn't know that she was a delegate for Lamont but it doesn't surprise me. I've known Susan for years and she's great. An unfailing, unflagging progressive.

3. Interesting. In my neck of the woods, Western CT.............
I happened to notice quite a few Lamont signs if yards as I was driving. Zero Lieberman, but maybe they haven't gotten them out yet. Anyway, it's a good sign.

4. Good luck with Lamont
Wish I still lived in CT - he'd have my vote. How's it looking for any Labor endorsements?

5. Don't know about Labor but I will
check and post it.

I'll be volunteering some of my daytime hours (I am semi retired)to staff a phone bank doing some outreach. Gotta get his name out there!

6. Some Labor leaders have called Lieberman a high maintenance senator
that is a senator who needs to be pressured to do what is right. Labor doesn't have problems with Dodd, just Lieberman.

Yet these same Labor leaders don't want to endorse Lamont over Lieberman, but rank-and-file union members are supporting Lamont. I think Labor will wait until after the primary to endorse. Right now they are more concerned with the CT Gov race and most labor unions are backing DeStefano.

The unions that endorsed Lieberman are mostly those working for the military-industrial companies.

7. I was born and raised in Bridgeport. Back, before I left in the late 60s,
CT was very union. My Dad retired in the 70s and stayed part of his union. He worked at Sikorshy.

Is CT still as heavily union as it once was?

8. Unions are still strong in the Democratic Party but not dominant any more
I'm not a member of a union. I'm a software engineer for a major financial services company. Never had the opportunity to join a union.

9. When I was a kid, I thought all men were in unions and all
people in white shirts were bosses. The only man I knew, as a kid, who wasn't in a union, was my best friend's father. He owned a tiny radio and TV repair shop; blue collar but self-employed.

Life was simple then.
