Jerry Brown was called "Governor Moonbeam" because he said
that some day each state would have his own satellite. I guess a prophet never has an easy time (Al gore global warming).

So today we learn his prediction is coming true, thanks to Kentucky and Morehead University.

Kentucky to be the first state to launch a satellite

FRANKFORT - Kentucky will become the nation's first state to send a satellite into space -- probably by late 2007 -- in a cooperative venture among state universities and agencies designed to promote education, research and economic development.

The satellite program, announced yesterday at the state Council on Postsecondary Education, could help attract high-tech businesses to what is being touted as "Silicon Holler" near Morehead State University, said Morehead President Wayne Andrews.

Morehead has one of the nation's four bachelor's degree programs in space science and what is regarded as a world-class, 21-meter "dish" for tracking satellites. The school is planning a $16 million space science building and has attracted two space technology companies to the area, Andrews said. He believes the university is poised to become an "incubator" for similar companies.

2. I loved ol Moonbeam
Voted for him twice as governor. Youre right, he was before his timee in a lot of ways
At least money's not a big motive in his life-I always like a governor who drives a cheaper car than I do

4. Jerry was called "Moonbeam" in order to discredit him.
Just like they are calling Al Gore nuts now, same reason, same MO.
All other explanations are bullshit.

8. The republicans have long been anti intellectual. I remember
during the McCarty hearings, they were referring to professors and other highly educated people as "egg heads."

I think she'd enjoy but I'm obviously not going to force her into it.

She reminds me a lot of me when I was in grade school.

Well, except I didn't wear skirts....usually. ;)

9. Cool...
I love Jerry Brown...He was my pick in '92...I was very upset when Clinton got the nod instead of Brown...Oh well, water under the bridge now. I warmed up to Bill by the time the election rolled around but I was one unhappy puppy during the Dem convention which was in my city that year...In fact, I went to Maine to get away from it....

I've seen Jerry handle some of those idiots on Fox News very well too....

10. I think that was the first time I knew that the press lied. I'm in NY and
I saw a press conference on C-Span where Cuomo said that both Brown and Clinton were excellent candidates. The next day, on the cover of one of the papers, it had Cuomo just touting Clinton....

Leave it to the press to do something like that....Nice to know Mario was touting him, though, even if it wasn't reported. I love Mario too.

12. It was Mike Royko that gave him that nickname.
To Royko's credit, he apologized for it in print. He was sent to the Democratic National convention in, I believe, 1980, and he said that Brown gave the only intelligent and relevant speech at the convention.

25. I have often thought about that
He gave an excellent speech at the convention, warning of the consequences of abandoning the fundamental principles of the party. I don't think he is terribly surprised with where we have arrived.

13. Chicago columnist Mike Royko gave him that nickname and later
regretted it. Jerry B was way ahead of his time but, like Al Gore, the stupid media just couldn't deal with a brilliant candidate. IQ of 110? You're in the catbird seat with them so they can feel superior with their IQ's of 120.
