Um, I forgot 7 people talked of spy - Libby

BY JAMES GORDON MEEK
DAILY NEWS WASHINGTON BUREAU

WASHINGTON - Borrowing a defense used by tax evaders and schoolkids who don't do their homework, Vice President Cheney's indicted former top adviser told a grand jury he forgot that seven people told him about CIA spy Valerie Plame.

Lewis (Scooter) Libby is charged with lying to FBI agents and a federal grand jury about how he first learned of Plame's identity. Cheney, his boss, was among those who told Libby that an Iraq war critic's wife worked at the CIA, prosecutors allege.

But Libby said in his now-unsealed 2004 testimony that "it seemed to me" he heard about Plame "for the first time" from NBC broadcaster Tim Russert in July 2003.

............

In the case of Libby's chats with Cheney about Wilson - such as one after he spoke to Russert - he said, "When I had that conversation I had forgotten about the earlier conversations in which told me ... that the wife worked at the CIA."

It's not like he's talking about a sexual affair.

10. I know they were po'd about being outed on the yellowcake
But why were they so fixated on Valerie Plame?

It's turning out that this wasn't just a slip of the tongue from one person to another. The Wilsons were the topic of numerous high level discussions within the Bush administration. The WHIGS even convened a meeting to discuss the Wilson/Plame problem. Why did BushCo risk so much to try to shut these people down?

15. I know it doesn't add up
the *'s have destroyed people much easier without putting themselves out in the open like this. I mean they could have destroyed Joe Wilson in other ways - see John McCain in 2000 SC primary

17. My guess?
It was never supposed to get this far. It was just gonna be another SOP smear and cover-up and everyone was just acting their part. No one was ever supposed to put the pieces together. Wilson was to be portrayed/seen as just another anti-establishment whack job. Then came Fitz!

16. Libby's whole defense to date seems to be.....
I forgot I knew, I forgot, I mispoke and if it wasn't me, it was the prosecution witnesses who mispoke, forgot, and, anyway, they are all biased against me.

Patrick Fitzgerald might as well call it quits with such a strong defense! roflmao.

19. And poor Novak
who was also "badly misquoted", and that's why his story changed 180 degrees. Suuuuure. It's just a whole carousel of sketchy memory and misquotes.

21. I find it fascinating that Novak was "badly misquoted" when
he is the one who wrote the columns with the exact words now, supposedly, misquotes.

It just gets more bizarre.

22. What a tard!
Jeebus, I can remember back in 2001 when people said to me, "Don't worry about Bush being stupid, he's going to surround himself with smart, capable people."

They play the incompetence card, but they are just plain liars and traitors who hide behind a facade of dim-wittedness when they get caught in their treasonous activities. "I forgot." I want him to say that to Fitz's face under oath. :eyes:

24. It seems particularly pathetic
in light of their history of extreme arrogance -- the "trust us with the fate of the country, because we are like so much smarter than you people" attitude that both I. Liar Libby and Karl Rove have worn like a badge of honor.
